EBS MultiComp Compressor Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'd really really miss this pedal if something happened to it.
Sound
I really dig this pedal. I've been a gigging for 13 years and the EBS multicomp has been one of the most important purchases I've made, aside from the bass itself! Have ya ever had that problem where the bass gets lost in the mix? Solved. I don't have to turn up to be heard, I just stomp on this baby and the bass "pops-out" and stands out a lot cleaner in the mix. Need a slap tone in an instant? Solved. Switch to MB setting and turn up the compressor. Need an instant warm fingerstyle tone? Solved. Just use the tube setting. Octave pedal not tracking cleanly? Solved. Just put this before your octaver and the tracking is noticeably improved. Hard not to like this pedal. As far as I'm concerned it's suitable for any music style.
Features
Pretty basic controls but there are a lot of variations once you start messing withe trim pots in the back. I enjoy the simplicity but there are other compressor pedals that have a quite a few more options for effect shaping.
Ease of Use
Easy, but changing the battery is a pain in the rear.
Quality
Totally solid. I've used it for two years, constantly gigging. No problems.
Value
It's expensive but it's quality. With compressors you get what you pay and the multicomp is totally worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Never had to contact EBS.
The Wow Factor
No frills design. All the magic is on the inside.

"High quality, but not enough control"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I already returned it and applied my refund toward a JoeMeek FloorQ.
Sound
The Multicomp provides three settings: Normal, Multi-band and Tubesim. The normal does the least to color your tone and in that mode all the control is in the comp/limit knob. The tubesim adds a little presence, takes away a little low end and smooths out the mids. The multi-band mode in the factory setting takes away some lows and subtly colors the tone.
Features
Besides the three modes, you can only control the threshold with the comp/limit knob, and adjust the output volume with the gain knob to make up for the decrease in average volume inherent in compression. Other than that, you're stuck with their standard setting for attackm release and ratio. There are also a couple flat screw controls inside the unit for adjusting the separate high and low frequency bands for multi-band mode, but these should have been knobs on the outside of the box. As it is, you would have to remove the screws to set it up for different basses, rigs, rooms, etc.
Ease of Use
One 3-way switch and two knobs. Pretty simple.
Quality
Seemed well constructed in a sturdy metal housing. All the parts fit together well.
Value
I would want more control over the various parameters for $200.
The Wow Factor
It's nice and compact
