These pups have been around forever, so that tells you they're good. They have a very mid-rangy sound, but very balanced, which lets me cut through the rest of the band. They have individually adjustable-height poles, so you can fine-tune each string for volume balance. I've owned the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounds (which are voice to scoop the mids) and they got very boomy on the bottom end. The Model Ps sound more natural to me. The key to good EQing is to have all the frequencies at the source (the bass) then boost or cut with the amp's EQ. The Dimarzio DP122 Model P gives me all the frequencies my bass naturally produces. Also, If you like a touch of natural overdrive on a tube head, the Model P's mid-range will get you there. I got the Creme DP122, which looks awesome (to me). People either love or hate the creme, but they always remember it. The Model Ps really make make my bass look and sound unique.
