"Very worthy companion with my Strat... all styles"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The best pedal!! I will never really have to buy another pedal. I've owned many different pedals, Old and new alike. I have a cry baby is use also and just use the BE50 as a volume pedal. I played it at the shop I knew I must have this pedal for hours of playing and practicing and the pain free design of playing on stage. Definitely worth more then its price. Fits well in a duffel bag with matching AC adapter... picked mine up cheap $10...
Sound
The sound quality is amazing, from the flange to the phaser to the distortion... just great.
Features
3 Stomp boxes and fully customizable... best feature by far... Has full expression Wah, sounds like classic crybaby...
Ease of Use
Very easy to use, even has patches that can be tweaked... play it in and play for hours...
Quality
Very high quality... i stomp on the pedal all the time playing on stage... throw it around...(not really recommended) very sturdy metal contruction...
Value
Add up the different stomp boxes and you will see why its a great value... i paid much higher then what it sells for now
Manufacturer Support
Never really had a problem with it... gave it a ten so as to not drop the rating...
The Wow Factor
Very sexy piece of equiptment... sexy blue... yes plz :)

"Still amazed at the versatility, even after a year"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

This is my second review of the Boss ME-50. I have owned mine now for a year or so, and still find myself amazed at the versatility of this thing. It takes some patience to sit and tweak your sound, but you are rewarded every time. I play a Les Paul and a Fender Strat, and the ME-50 lets me customize my sound to the guitar I am playing at the time. I set my banks up by guitar/song and it is amazing. That is why I am writing a second review. The Boss ME-50 is a good product. It is versatile, easy to use (tedious but easy), and lets you find the sound that is right for you. A stomp box doesn't give you that flexibility.
Sound
I gave the sound a 10 because you can customize any sound to your specific requirements. There is no reason why you can't find exactly what sound/tone you are looking for. Between the Boss ME-50, your guitar, and your amp, the sound combinations are nearly infinite
Features
Needs to have the power supply delivered with the product. Needs bank switching capability without having to purchase "optional" equipment. That said, it is still a good processor. You will have to waste one of the three selections in each bank if you want to keep a clean setting in each bank plus two additional effects. Extra work, but I did it and it doesn't affect your ability to play sets, you just have to keep up with where you store your pre-sets
Ease of Use
Very easy to learn. Tedious once you start using it. Seems like it takes forever to get the sound you want, but once you find it, the time was worth it. Don't let anyone tell you this thing sucks. They probably weren't patient enough to give it a chance to shine.
Quality
This is the one thing I own that lived up to the hype. I bought a tank!
Value
finally found a product that is worth what I paid for it. I would buy another one in a heart beat
Manufacturer Support
Gave it a 10 because I have owned the ME-50 for a year now with no problems
The Wow Factor
Besides being a good product, it looks cool.

"Boss has redeemed itself"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Overall this is a great pedal, if you need something to cover all the basics, (modulation, distortion, delay, and a decent wah), then this is your pedal, i'm definately glad I got it.
Sound
overall this product sounds very good. I especially liked the built in compressor, which works much better than the single stomp box unit (CS-3). the modulation sounds very nice and the delay options are awesome as well.
Features
the expression pedal is amazing, when kicked in, it can be one of several different sounds, including wah and a voice box simulator. when disengaged it becomes a volume pedal. the noise gate is good, but because it automatically sets the decay rate you can get some feedback after you stop playing.
Quality
metal constuction, durable.
Value
I would say that it is close, but it could chop a little off the top. the ease of use is well worth it, but with that you also lose some diversity in effects options.
Manufacturer Support
roland's site is very intuitive and helpful.
The Wow Factor
I needed an effects unit that covered all the bases easily and effectively. this covers it. (and it looks cool too, chicks dig it).

"Great for the studio and live."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Overall I am VERY satisfied will the product. 100% usable right out of the box. The only thing that was a littl annoying was tha it doesn't come the power chord--it must be baught separately. You can, hough, put batteries in it. Perfect for what I do (studio work, live sets, jamming at home).
Sound
Great. Comes out just how you want it. With a little experimentation can create just about any sound imaginable.
Features
You can achieve just about any guitar sound immaginable with this sucker. With 22 distortion/overdrive effects, 11 modulation effects, and 11 delay effects, this is everything I expected it to be and more. Everything is customizable too.
Ease of Use
I don't have tons experience with this kind of stuff (our drummer usually does all of the studio stuff) but it was extremely easy to use. I didn't even have to use the instruction manual. My 9 year old sister could figure this out in heartbeat.
Quality
Like a tank. Made with a metal bodie and sturdy plastic knobs. Plastic pedals. Had it for years and still works great.
Value
Sure, a little pricy, but all effects pedals like this are. You won't find a better value anywhere I've looked.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to call about this product yet but support has been great in the past with other products.
The Wow Factor
Looks great, works great, sounds great. As soon as I saw it I wanted it. Knowing what I know about it now, if I didn't haven't I would want it even more.

"As close to perfect as they come"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I will probably always use this. I need to be versatile, and there's not enough pedals in the world using a rack mount or any other pedal that would fill my needs. I'd easily need one pedal per song, so if I were ever professional, that would mean one per recorded song, plus anything new we were going to play. That would suck. This pedal doesn't suck. The only thing I'll ever need is a lead pedal, something to +5dB my guitar, and probably in the amp's effects loop. I've played other multi boards, DoD and others, and I dislike amp modeling so much that I looked for a board without it. Also, no other multi board was mainly knobs like this. This thing helps me meet my musical goals very nicely, except not having a "lead" switch. If lost or stolen, yes, I'd buy one, if I didn't already have a backup one. I like most how easy it is and the value. I don't like not having a lead button, or something that changes effects based on pick attack.
Sound
Sounds very nice. Deep, loud, and versatile. It responds to my playing flawlessly. Yes, sounds as expressive as I do when I play. Yes, Helps me achieve the sound I'm looking for. Compatible with church playing, yes. I like the delays and choruses, and the wah works good. Some of the distortion models are a bit out-of-a-can, but that's due to having limited space for more knobs. I mean, four knobs but the Boss MT-2 has six because of those multi-knobs. I have used this with a Fender Twin Reverb reissue, various amps, a 1972 authentic fender twin reverb, church sound boards, even my computer, and it sounds great. Live sounds better than recordings, but I'm recording to computer so it's not going to be good. The presets are great, and making your own is easy, and you can make them sound very nice. Boss's website is too valuable not to have available, due to the tons of patches and advice you can read. I use this pedal with an ESP LTD EC100QM ($300). To make it sound better, please include better presets instead of totally random ones, or make it possible to download and inject more using USB or something, but I can't complain. This pedal is very awesome, especially since I detest amp modeling.
Features
Accessories? Nope, didn't come with the power plug, which is the only reason it's not a 10. This pedal's most useful feature is that it uses knobs, making quick-changes or output level changes so easy. The least useful feature, to me anyways, is some of the wah mods, since I'm not in an ambient or insane-metal band. The only thing I wish I had, to be honest, is a footswitch for +5dB or something to control "hey, I'm soloing!" or "I'm back to playing rhythm". That alone would make this thing perfect, at least to me. However, I can always get a gain booster or something. Using a different preset pedal for lead when you only have three of them in memory mode isn't very fun, and for this I should've bought the next more expensive multi board (although then I wouldn't have very many knobs).
Quality
This thing is a tank. Rugged, beautiful, no blemishes I can find, no loose anything. Reliable: never had a problem. I'm not worried, but it's always wise to have something as a backup, like maybe in my case a chorus and a BD-2 pedal. I already use this "on the road" because I walk a mile to/from where I play, and have also used it on stage and transported it through airport baggage terminals. I can't think of anything that's not quality on this thing. It's warrantied for 5 years. However, I know someone personally who still has the same working Boss CH-2 chorus pedal she bought in highschool, so go figure.
Value
This thing is worth every dime: I would've had to buy 6 or more individual pedals to do all that I need, easily, plus some sort of container to house them.
Manufacturer Support
Never had to deal with them because it just plain works. Their website is absolutely awesome. No service or warranty needed yet. Never needed repair.
The Wow Factor
This thing is very nice. I spend a lot of time playing it. It comes in a beautiful blue, is clearly labeled, and has good looking controls.

"An array of stomp boxes in one."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Superb value. Connected to a great tube amp, you can't go wrong
Sound
Very good representation of real stomps all housed in compact box. Never going to be an exact replica though
Features
Love all the stomps. Could have at least supplied power pack and one bank switch (I've had to buy two but as it's so good it's worth the investment.)
Quality
Solid as a rock. Also very useful for violent outbursts against annoying spectators!
Value
Exceptional value if you have a little patience in order to twek the board to your desired sound
Manufacturer Support
It works fine so until I find a problem can only give perfect feedback.

"The most versatile, efficient, and quality effects box on the market today..."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I plan on keeping this effects box for a very long time. It has proven to be exactly what I was looking for in quality of design, quality of sound, and efficiency of use. The only changes I believe that I would ever make would be to buy some different pedals to stack onto this box and add even more sounds to my "sound library."
Sound
This product was exactly what I was looking for in the way of effects for my guitar. I needed some quality distortion, wah, delay, and modulation-which this product provided in abundance along with many other features. It is easy to use, yet very versatile in sound.
Features
My previous effects box that I owned did not have the ability to stack sounds, but with this product I can make almost any sound that I want with extreme ease. Also the tempo features and the different options that the pedal offers are simply superb.
Quality
I travel a lot: often moving all over the country several times in a period of months, and I have found this product to be extremely easy to move about, pack up, and store. It is adaptable and well-made. Just like Timex: it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. :)
Value
I believe that this product was indeed well worth the money that I paid for it. It has many different sound options and functions that you could only attain through a myriad of other pedals, which are extremely expensive.
Manufacturer Support
A tremedous credit to the quality of the product, I have had no need of repairs or any kind of service to my box.
The Wow Factor
The way the ME50 is set up is extremely convenient and efficient. It is indeed a technological marvel in the sound arena. The box itself is also very pleasing to the eye in color and in set up, with easily understandable functions and dials. I think having it in your collection gets you some attention: turning the heads of quite a few other musicians. :)

"Can stand up to 300 pounds of "oaf-age" impact"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'll be using this a long time, until it breaks, hopefully I will be able to get a replacement before the line is ended. I bought a line 6 and the line ended... I cannot get a replacement Floorboard.
Sound
I had accidentally wrote all my review for the "pedal" for this unit. This thing sounds great.
Features
Pretty easy to set up
Ease of Use
Pretty easy to get what you want out of it
Quality
Even though it is in a metal case, there is a design flaw that makes it susceptible to breakage: The inputs and outputs are on the "front" of the unit, facing away from the player. If these could be put on the side, then 300 pound oafs falling on it will nto break it as easily.
Value
For about 300, you get about 900 worth of effects
Manufacturer Support
Great support: After the 300 pound oaf fell on it: I brought it to the local shop that covers the warranty. Parts and labour were covered (parts for about a year, labout for 3 months)
The Wow Factor
It looks swell

"Wowwy"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I gave it away unwillingly. i do not wish i had done it but its too late now.
Sound
This is one of the best starter pedals out there, dont waste your time with the digitech pedals even though they are much cheaper you get the sounds you pay for. After owning a digitech multieffect pedal and then this the product is worth every penny.
Features
This pedal comes with everything. you have a Volume/Wah. A compressor, sustain, distortion, bunch of mod effects(chorus, flange, univibe, phaser) and it even has amp effects and guitar effects, (acoustic, humbucker, ect.) and a delay. Its Great!!!
Ease of Use
Very Very Very Easy.
Quality
Its Boss What else do i have to say?
Value
Worth every Penny
The Wow Factor

"SEVERAL OTHER REVIEWERS MISSTATED FEATURES - READ THE MANUAL IF YOU'RE CONDISERING PURCHASE AND IGNORE THE FEATURE COMPLAINTS HE"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I don't see any reason that I would switch to another pedal from this one. I get great sound for live performance and studio work. It DOES have a direct output for recording (someone said it didn't). It's intuitive, but there are several features you need to read the manual to discover, like the way it automatically rearranges the signal chain for best sound based on what effects you have active, to name one at random. This is a powerful pedal that I wouldn't want to play guitar without.
Sound
For a modeling pedal, the sound is superb.
Features
You need to spend $70 for a dual footpedal and power cord for it, but onboard features are plentiful.
Ease of Use
This is the most intuitive board in it's class, hands down.
Quality
Very rugged, like all boss pedals. I like the heft it has; it stays in place very well when stomped.
Value
This pedal does not skimp on features or quality yet manages to stay at the entry level price for it's class... Impressive, even considering the lack of power supply and bank changing footswitches.
Manufacturer Support
I have no idea as I got the pedal used.
The Wow Factor
Looks and works just like I would want it to. If mine broke I would buy another one immediately.

"Simply the best sound you can get for any amount of money."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
The Boss ME-50 has met or exceeded all of my expectations for sound quality, ease of use, and sound. I upgraded from the Digitech, and can honestly say there is no comparison between the two. Don't get me wrong, the Digitech is okay if you are a beginner and learning what effects are all about without breaking the bank, but if you are looking for a PURE guitar sound, spend the money. This thing is for real!!!
Sound
I am coming from the Digitech RP-50 to the ME-50, and the sound quality of the Boss is superb. I never knew what I was missing!
Features
You can store and recall 3 effects from each bank which is good, but you have to manually switch banks (footswitch sold separately) beyond that. It would be nice if Boss would have included the ability (feature) to switch banks without having to buy additional pedals.
Ease of Use
At first, the boss appears complicated, but after 10 minutes you are on your way. Very easy to use.
Quality
Well made. No surprise here. It is a Boss
Value
I love the efects and the sound the Boss offers; it is worth every penny. But for what I paid for it the least Boss could do is throw in a power supply...You wouldn't buy a television and expect to buy the power cord separately.
Manufacturer Support
No support used
The Wow Factor
I wanted it from the first time I saw it. I personally like the sound over the Digitech and Line 6, and the thing looks great at my feet. It has been a blast so far!

"Great bit of kit"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
now that i can afford it, is spend on good amps for distortion/od, and good single effects for the chosen effects i came to like while using my me-50. it really took me 3 years of owning it before i noticed its idiosynchrosies if you will. it doesnt have anything wrong with it, it just sounds 75% as good as my analog effects now. again i reiterate that the real value in this is its simplicity, and its usefullness to beginners and intermediate guitarists, as a learning tool. it can make youre cheap guitar and amp sound much nicer. i still use it extensively as a practice tool, and as a portable silent practice amp. i REALLY reccommend buying this and a 15watt practice amp with a nice clean channel, over spending the same money on an amp with 1 reasonable overdrive, and a few built in effects. you can take it and use it anywhere, with any system, straight into a p.a, or power amp and cab, or even computer speakers and headphones. it can also grow with you as you but better amps and equipment. 100% reccommend it in this application. if you are a bit advanced, you dont need me to tell you that you should spend the extra thousands for analog effects, but even then, it still makes a great practice tool.
Sound
ok here it is. ive owned my me-50 for 4 and 1/2 years, so i think im ready to review it. the sound quality is fantastic for its intended application. i have used it mainly through the front of the amp, but also in the effects loop, and hooked up to a tube power amp with a 412 cabinet. its is most useful at the front of the amp for me, and this further enhances its value for beginners. i bought it to use as my main effects. the pro's. ive never used other pedals since i bought it for long. you have to spend a lot more to get better effects so cheap. i think it is the best multi effects out there. simple as a row of stompboxes, and really is perfect for a beginner/intermediate guitarist. loads of useful effects, ability to run it through headphones or in stereo. it sounds best through a clean amp. the cons. it will completely colour the tone of your amp. be prepared to use it, and it alone. really does not like other pedals around. it colours it rather nicely, but again completely. it can sound a bit digital after a while, but this will only help you develop an ear for tone, and a taste for expensive analog pedals haha. apart from that not much really. its a great unit, and so damn useful. in a nutshell the distortions are not brilliant, bar the rat, scream, and od1. the modulations are nice, especially the stereo chorus', the delays are great, reverb, compressor, and tone modify are really useful. the wah is tolerable, and the pitch shifters are suprisingly good, if not polyphonic ( again $224 )
Features
i would honestly give it a 10 if it came with a power supply, and a footswitch to turn the tone modify/compressor functions on and off. its meant to be a row of stompboxes, but you cant adjust these functions on the fly live. ive never really had this problem as i dont use the compressor any more ( which is a quality one i admit ), and the tone modifier is always set to fat for me. has an absolute multitude of effects and all the parameters you will really need to know how to adjust. it really helped me to get to know what effects i use the most, how to adjust them, and how to create a soundscape. the most useful function for me is the tone modifier funnily enough. its something no other pedal gave me. fat sounds full, prescence adds a bit more treble, h/s gives me a more pushed 70s humbucker sound ( with an emg81, which never sounds anything less than a barking bulldog ), and the enhance gives a lovely brightness. great for a few different textures, and in turn gives you more tonal options. the least useful feature for me is the ring modulator. never could work out why they invented that. they should have named it after kerry king. useless. the fascia is very nice in metallic blue. has typical boss sturdiness.
Ease of Use
this is the trump card the me-50 has over all comers. it really is a bunch of stomboxes. you turn the knobs and it does it, no menus, no 360 degree knob that always goes 2 effects too far along on stage, no confusion. you can save patches by pressing the first two pedals together, press write, change parameters, press write, done! personally ive never used the memory function, as it is so easy to use it as a stompbox factory. there is no learning curve to the interface, just to how to use the effects properly, which is where the real value lies in this unit. very playable, and will make even a practice amp sound better than what most of your mates have.
Quality
again a ten for quality. boss is always a ten. i played a 1979 ph1 phaser the other day. all orginal and the LED even worked. i feel the same about this unit. its never given me any issues mechanically or sound wise. ive broken off a knob and scratched it a little from busking, but it is rock steady and is actually made of metal, unlike the crap zoom and digitech offer in this price range. never needed a backup, and would absolutely use it on the road. i use it for backstage practice and band practices as it is so portable. ive even used it with headphones on a 6 hour bus trip. i think it will last as long as i do. proper bit of kit that is built to last.
Value
this pedal is brilliant value, especially to a beginner and or intermediate. it will blow away most effects units, even youre digitech gnx, boss gt, zoom, vox tonelab ect. really is the way to go if youre doing multi effects at a price range of up to $1000. its been a core of my tone up until a short time ago, and will serve you well, and will indefinitely help you to understand the proper use of effects.
Manufacturer Support
i say ten because ive never had to make a phone call. that is good support for me/
The Wow Factor
i was on a waiting list in new zealand for one of these for 9 months after it came out. the first shipment was sold out. i knew it was for me. i was not disappointed when it arrived. umm would say i find it sexy, though it has a nice voice. i love it that it is made as if it was meant for a fighter jet. it is a great peice of kit, and a complete departure from other kinds of multi effects when it came out. simplicity and useability.

"Very good at the few things it does good."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The most important thing to me is not coloring my amp's natural sound and durability, and this pedal delivers that better than any other. That's all it delivers better than any other; it falls short of most other pedals in every other way.
Sound
I've played it through many amps, tube and solid state, Marshall, Peavey, Fender, and it takes a ton of tweaking to get it to not sound tinny no matter the amp. And since the controls are knobs, good luck keeping those settings without eating up a bank if you carry it gig to gig. But, through the effects loop of my Marshall it is the only pedal I have tried that doesn't color the sound of the amp when all effects are off. It's the only reason I didn't give it a 4.
Features
The knobs make it very quick and easy to tweak in live situations. But with only 30 saveable banks, and no single bypass switch, forcing you to save clean banks, it can bite you. The knobs move when you carry it, only natural, and they're fairly sensitive, so a small move can make a huge difference, especially if it's volume or gain. You need two more expensive switches to get any use out of it (I built my own with Radio Shack parts at 1/5 the price) and no AC Adaptor??? Haggle is all I have to say about that.
Ease of Use
Again, the double edged sword of the easy knobs that are too sensitive.
Quality
Solid as a rock. I treat it pretty rough, gigging and hauling to practice, keeping it in the trunk, etc and it's still like new.
Value
If you want a solid pedal that's easier than a collage of pedals, and doesn't color the amp's natural sound unless you want it to, 10. Other than that, there's much better sounding pedals on the market with way more features at a better price.
The Wow Factor
Easy and reliable to transport, and the blue, and the pedal, it does look cool.

"Many of these things will have tiny red rings all over them from players touching them with 10 foot poles. I for one will pass o"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I rate it this low overall because of the one dimesional use and the obvious price gouging by Roland/Boss to not include the AC adapter and footswitches. The bloody thing can't be used properly with out these functions. C'mon guys, guitarist didn't fall off turnip trucks. These are major issues.
Sound
Tinny and some what toneless for bottom end. Mostly high pitched sounds and also an annoying lag.
Features
Easily controlable for what you get, just not enough features compared to the other multi-effects offered by other companies.
Ease of Use
Very easy as long as you pop for the additional footswich to bank up and down and the AC adapter as well. More on this later. The knobs and buttons are very logical.
Quality
Made of rock. No problem here.
Value
Expensive for what you get considering it can only be used with a live rig, because it will not interface for direct recording. Also don't forget that you have to buy an additional foot switch and (are you kidding!) the AC adapter!!!!
The Wow Factor
No way. The Korg Toneworks and the Line 6 Pods are far surperior. It is better than the Digitechs however. I do like the blue color though, nice touch.

Sound

Features

"Not for me, selling it asap."

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Definitely not for me. My mistake for buying something whithout having actually tried it first.
Sound
Just playing my old Epiphone hollowbody through it, plugged into my Fender Twin, even with nothing but a teeny little bit of compression, makes the guitar sound sound "plinky" and unpleasant. The overdrives are all totally unuseable for me (except for the extremely rare times I'd want a super-extreme ridiculous distortion, which it does well.) I can see how they would be useful for someone who likes using tons of distortion, but they are poor for slight overdrive. I'd been rehearsing with just a Boss SE-70, using a touch of compression and some occasional delay/overdrive, and it sounds a billion times to me than the SE-50. When I got the SE-50 and plugged it in, I kept switching back and forth between the SE-50 and SE-70, hoping my ears had decieved me but they hadn't.
Features
The layout and features are really nice, that's why I bought one even beore I'd heard it.
Ease of Use
Seems ok in this regard.
Quality
It's very well made.
The Wow Factor
I wanted it until I actually bought it and played through it.

"Why couldn't Line 6 have made this thing?"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I wish this thing was laid out just like it is, with the addition of a bank up/down stomp feature, BUT I wish it was RED instead of BLUE and made by Line 6 instead of Boss!
Sound
The digital processing is too SLOW ! This thing takes WAY too long to process the sound and then spit it out. I can actually HEAR the time lag between when I play and when the sound arrives at my amp! It's really irritating. I normaly play all analog, but I DO record with Line 6, and sometimes use Line 6 live, and I don't that problem with any of THEIR modeling gear. I returned the one I bought.
Features
Just the right size. Just the right selection of effects. Built in tuner. The wah kicks to engage, and that's the right way to do it. It really should have a way to stomp up/down banks without adding external pedals to it thought. (HOW HARD IS THAT?) The CONCEPT is just right- It's a model of a Wah pedal and a bunch of stomp boxes. Just what I was looking for.
Quality
It's Boss. It's built like a tank.
Value
I can't use something that has the right features and the right collection of sounds, but has the time delay problem I described above.
Manufacturer Support

The Wow Factor
No. I returned It.

"not worth the money."

Overall: 2 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
Did not care much for the sound. Most of the fx were sounded tinny and fake. Boss spent too much effort in creating distortion modules for this machine. I actually bought the me-50 and returned it 5 days later because the amount of noise it created was irritable. At first, I thought maybe my amp was creating some of the noise, but as soon as I disconnected the me-50, the noise was gone. Also, no matter how I fine-tuned the me-50, it still created noise. I took back the me-50 and replaced it with the vox tonelab se...now that is one board that is awesome.
Features
The board seems to have a lot of features, but most of them were useless.
Quality
Seemed like it was very well put together.
Value
I would say that people who just want to make some cool noise, not caring much about tone, might enjoy this board.
Manufacturer Support
Did not use tech support.
The Wow Factor
Seems very cool when reading about it, but disappoints when actually used.

"nice"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
its cool if you need effects and don't wanna spend endless amounts of money one seperate pedals.
Sound
this thing is cool when your gigging up and stuff, or just jamming. But what is all comes down to is how easy and simple this product is to use.
Features
its got some cool features, but what would be better?...adding more! its cool though, i've had no problems with it.
Quality
pretty good quality, i say. when they made this they should have but tougher knobs on it, my friend has one too and a knob on his broke off when we were jamming. but whutever, its a good little addition to your rig.
Value
i say its all good, except for the knobs.
Manufacturer Support
i'v never dealt with anyone about it.
The Wow Factor
when i was cruising around my town, i seen this in a music shop and i tested it out, and it played nice, so i thought it would be a cool addition to my rig.

"The real reason to buy this pedal!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
For the value, quality, color, and price, its a great buy
Sound
Sounds great, the variety you can create is awesome, however, only if you play through an amp. If you are playing through a sound system, it sounds very muffled.
Features
Features are fine, lots of pretty knobs and buttons, but the one missing were a pedal to change banks, having to crouch down and press a tiny button to change banks was bad, specially in the middle of a show.
Quality
Dear God, its a Boss, but a small turret on the top it would make a good tank, you can through this thing out of an airplane, jump up and down on it, shoot it, blow it up, pour acid on it, and it would work just fine.
Value
I like it,
Manufacturer Support
wouldnt know, havent need support yet, but, its Boss, so I am sure it will be fine
The Wow Factor
The color is so damn sexy!

"Not bad."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Now I have it home, and have used it a little, I don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for. But it'll do until I find what it is I think I want. Giving it an eight might not be fair because I really don't think this produce was geared to people like myself. But, based on advertising, and the claims about what it can do, it seems like a good, 'value-for-money' peice of gear.
Sound
The chorus sounds are very good, to my ears. The distortion sounds don't seem very realistic to me. I'm not a rock guitar player though, and maybe they are fine for most people. Very quiet unit as far as 'noise' is concerned. One of the best effects units I've seen in this regard. I have Boss's programmable twin EQ pedal and don't use it because it's far too noisy!
Features
I would have given it a higher score had the power adaptor and at least one external foot switch (bank control) been included.
Quality
Don't know. It 'looks' like a very good quality unit - especially compared to some other brands of effects units I looked at in the store. Time will tell. Everything I've read seems to indicate that Boss is 'quality'.
Value
For the price paid - compared to buying separate effects units, and the related cables, power adapters, etc. - it seems like good value for money.
Manufacturer Support
Don't know. Never had to deal with Boss on a support issue.
The Wow Factor
Effects units don't have sex appeal (to me). Aesthetically, it looks ok. Though I can see already that, if I use this thing on stage, the text printed on the blue finish is not going to be readable in low light. Design seems good. Easy to use. Intuitive. But I would have liked to have seen an additional pedal for switching the banks.

Boss ME-50 Guitar Effects Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
The only things that piss me off about this pedal are the additional accessories that you need to buy. Other than that, this processor is the best thing to happen to my set up. I originally bought the GT-6, but returned it the next day for the ME-50. Don't get me wrong-the GT-6 is very cool, but I had a hell of time figuring that thing out. Take my advice and go with the ME-50-you won't be dissapointed.
Sound
This pedal sounds awesome! Other processors, namely the GT-6, sound way too manufactured for my taste. The ME-50 effects have that natural stompbox sound.
Features
In terms of features, the ME-50 has every type of effect that I would ever need plus more. However, there are a couple of dissapointments. First, the unit doesn't come with an AC adaptor, which I had to pay $20 bucks for. Thats just wrong. Also, you have to buy additional FS-5U pedals to control the bankswith your feet, which are $30 bucks a piece. Kind of a bummer, but the sound of the unit will cure that.
Quality
This thing is built like a tank-Boss quality all the way. Enough said.
Value
At $299, this processor seems relatively inexpensive. Just think what it would cost to get all the Boss stomp boxes that this unit encompasses. However, once you buy the AC adaptor, FS-5U's for banking, and shipping/sales tax, you're close to $400, which is what the Boss GT-6 costs.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to use it, but Boss has a great customer service reputation so I'm not worried.
The Wow Factor
I love this pedal, probably a little too much. It looks awesome with its blue finish and is very responsive. Its about time that somebody realized that sound, quality, and simplicity are the key attributes for an effects processor.

"No need for a long row of pedals when playing live"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
It replaces a row of pedals in a live setup which is exactly why I bought it.
Sound
The effects equal or come very close to individual stomp boxes.
Features
The optional patch change switches are an absolute must playing live.
Quality
It is made of metal just like any other Boss pedal.
