"Blackstar HT Dual - Massive Valve tone and all the distortion I'd ever need."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've been searching for a great distortion pedal for years. This is the one i'm going to settle with. I really can't see any other distortion ever replacing it (even my TC Nova Drive didn't make the cut..and that's a great pedal ! )
Sound
If you're after a full on tube amp sound with almost complete control over your tone, this would be the pedal. I've just sold my TC Nova Drive to get this and I feel there's no comparison. The Nova Drive was good, a little dark and noisy at high gain maybe, but the Black Star makes my little Vox AC4 sing and scream. It's like having my Marshall JCM2000/900 and Fender Hot Rod all i one pedal. Love It.
Features
The ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) is very impressive. It gives you access to either british or american amp tones..nice! I'm also very impressed with the tone of the EQ, it's able to shape the distortion tone more effectively than any distortion box i've known (including my amp heads). The pedal also has an emulated output which I prefer over my line 6 and Amplitube gear..however i'm a naturalist and think this pedal sounds best plugged into an miked amp. There's not much else on this pedal, apart from the great honking tube that gives you that mass of creamy overdive and distortion.
Ease of Use
The pedal is very easy to use. Pretty much plug it in and off you go.
Quality
All of the pots and switches feel rock solid, more than any other piece of equipment that I own (which is extensive). The casing look military grade. Awesome.
Value
I've played with a lot of pedals and amps in my time. This is the first distortion pedal I've been truly happy with. It's well worth the asking price.
Manufacturer Support
Not known, it's never gone wrong, nor do I expect it to.
The Wow Factor
It's big and the tube glows (back lit LED i assume), everyone should have one.

Sound
This is a very good distortion pedal. The distortion is very warm and musical and I find the ISF switch very usable in obtaining a setting that works with my guitars, amps and playing style. The distortion can range from nice warm break-up to a great crunch to rectifier heaviness.
Features
The ISF feature is great. The EQ is very effective. Having a dual channel, tube based pedal in such a small footprint compared to the radial tri-mode or plexitube is great. The only downside is that it requires 22V DC which means you need to use the included power supply vs tap into something like the voodoo labs pedal power supply.
