I think this is as much as I would want as much as a USB Controller. It has no Sequencer built in, but is very easy to use and can control a concert on stage. In the long run I might have preferred to get the UMX49 only because its a bit smaller. But then, you can't control as many events either. As a studio piece it can be configured as an event controller for stop, record etc. Thats cool, but isn't really its default configuration, as well as easy access to VST instruments as mentioned. Would have been nice to have some feedback on board too, like vol lights for volume control.
Sound
Not a bad unit. You can get the latency down to about 8ms each way in Cubase with a fairly ordinary system and a live 128 value card. Comes with a U-Control USB thing with two channel ins and outs for additional high speed sound processing on analog channels. Haven't toyed with the packaged software but seems fine. Depends on what you use it for. Comes with lots of VST Instruments. Fairly run of the mill.
Features
USB 1.1 MIDI (Advantage - works with older systems) Master Control, slider, 8 assignable control knobs, and 8 control buttons. No View screen. 1 X Midi Connector No Power adapter (power over USB. If the USB is overloaded, it can be supplimented with 9V battery, not included, or a 9V 100mA DC power adapter, not included)
Ease of Use
Needs some tinkering to get it to work with other software packages because its a fairly new product
Quality
All buttons and knobs feel expensive. Keys are solid. Fairly compact, takes a battery (9V)
Manufacturer Support
Eh, Alright I guess. Nothing special.
The Wow Factor
If you can get some great VST Instruments or you need to control a device really badly this is fairly awesome. Definately geared towards more computer-centralized equipment though.
