Behringer T1952 Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'm buying 3 more! They are hand to find though.
Sound
Re-tubed it's a 10. Standard tubes - 8.5. This is my main compressor. I used it with standard tubes for a lonmg time. It is nice as is. I have used it on every thing. It's great on drums, guitar, and bass. I sometimes use it on vox too. I revalved it with two different vales and it rocks. Gonna buy at least another 3 for my studio?
Features
All the standard stuff. With the right valves the 'Warmth' control rocks.
Quality
Nothing wrong with it. They have done a stunning job re-creating a vintage look and feel. The knobs may be plastic, but they are replicating backerlite knobs of years gone by. Backerlite is very britle and breaks easy.
Value
So in-expensive that it's a joke.
Manufacturer Support
Not had to use it.
The Wow Factor
Not one person / band / A&R guy etc has NOT commented on how cool it looks.

Overall this is what I was looking for, compressor/limiter that is transparent with a warmth control.
Sound
This was just what I was looking for, a transparent compressor unit that doesn't color the sound.
Features
Lots of features and adjustments, I just set and forget.
Ease of Use
Easy to use, and the documentation is easy to read.
Quality
Very well made.
Value
This is the best compressor/limiter for the best value, I'm getting another.
Manufacturer Support
I haven't needed support.
The Wow Factor
Cool looking piece of gear.

"all they have to do is add pre-emphasis for us broadcasters."

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I am at this time looking for a better unit to run at the end of my audio chain, At then I will use the t1952 in the main inserts in my audio board to level things out befor going into my other processing units. I like the looks the most, the worst thing about it is the tube system. Dos'nt seem to do much for getting that true tube compressor sound.
Sound
I use it as a broadcast processor. With a compression ratio at 4:1 & threshold at -10 plus auto attack & release. I set the limiter control to where it activated the limiter then backed off just alittle to where the limiter leds come on very seldom. Adjusted the expander/gate till I had zero noise in pauses. It increased my audio at about 25%. Set the tube harmonics half way. sounds very good.
Features
I wish the limiter was totally seperate from the compressor, but you need to employ the output control to set it. For $199.99 you can't go wrong with the t1952.
Quality
I've had mine for a year & ahalf now & had no problems so for. IT looks good & seems to be built very well.
Value
yes
Manufacturer Support
Iv'e never emailed them for any problems. But have emailed them several times with ?'s on the unit or ?'s about some of their other products I had some interest in. They don't even answer back most of the time. When they do, I think I might know the answer better than them.
The Wow Factor
It does look damn good I've got to admit. The performance is good but could be better. For me it is just a practical addition for my setup.

"This unit is what it is"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I've just purchased a used unit. Haven't recieved it yet. I have other behringer products. They are what they are. They're not bad for small business owners who can't break the bank. Behringer is a cheaper made brand for just this application. From beginners to professional. Would i rather own an 1176 compressor? Yes I would! Can I afford several thousand dollars for it at the moment? No. Because behringer products are cheaper than the competition boutique processors by thousands of dollars, novice engineers and garage band type musicians tend to buy affordable gear. That being said? Whether a compressor unit be a 1500 dollar El8 distressor, or a $200 behringer product? It's the sound source you put into the product. If you are not experienced in audio signal processing, no matter what unit you use? It will sound bad coming out. These aren't magical boxes that convert crap sound into million dollar recording studio sound. It's the experience on how to mix and engineer is what makes any signal processing gear work. Not the other way around. I own the modern version of this unit. The composer pro xl 2600. It works fine for what it is. I have no issue with behringer products. Why? Because I know how to process sound and what the correct tool for the job is. If a unit adds a coloration you don't like? Just run it pre eq and take the coloration frequency out. That simple. Even a thousand dollar unit colors sound. Some good and some bad. If you have no years or a decade or 2 of doing this stuff, you need to learn before badmouthing other companies gear. Or better yet? Badmouthing also badmouths those who use these budget gear products. I happen to not use pro tools. I get the same thing done using a more affordable daw. Because I don't use a top notch brand name workstation? Doesn't mean that the job cannot be done.

"Good for the price, but don't expect too much."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

It does what it needs to do, and has a good price tag. It could be alot better, but not in this price range.
Sound
This device doesn't have the best sound in the world, or even particularly good sound, but is functional. If you're on a tight budget, it will get the job done, but don't expect anything too spectacular. Keep your levels going in as high as possible, because this unit tends to bring in noise. The stock tubes are crap and should be replaced immediately.
Features
For the price, this does offer quite alot, and as I said previously, it's functional. More control over the attack and release times on the gate would be nice though.
Ease of Use
It doesn't get much easier than this.
Quality
The thing is rock solid. It doesn't sound great, but you can probably get away with dropping the thing onto a sidewalk multiple times without breaking it.
Value
It's good for the price, but again, don't expect it to be very good. It's functional, and does what it needs to do for the price.
Manufacturer Support
If it breaks, throw it away and buy a new one. You won't get any support from the company.
The Wow Factor
It looks nice, but it doesn't really have any sex appeal since it doesn't sound very good.
