I am a professional drummer/percussionist and a not so professional studio rat so I have tested many, many different headphones and IEM's. I personally own probably a dozen different brands/models but my go to phones were the Sennheiser Pro 280's For everyrhing Studio and practice but for live events I preferred the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X for a slightly fuller meatier low end. That is until I traded three Ben Franklins here at zZounds for a pair of these M70X phones. Knowing what I know now I would gladly have given 4 possibly 5 Franklins for a pair of these cans but they are easily worth the going rate of $299 so if your on the fence at all about spending the cake for these no worries my friends you will be pleased with the investment. Now I reach for the M70's in every studio session, rehearsal and especially enjoy these in live events! I can royally beat on my skins with my largest pair of sticks and what I can hear is much less than with any other brand/model and I can wear them for hours and hours and never get tired of wearing them, really! But best of all of course is they're ability to reproduce the music cleanly the way it was meant to be heard. Even at high volumes these cans are clean and efficient. I could go on and on about the case, the detachable cables, the padded headband and yes the sound! But I wont because I'm tired of typing and your tired of reading so part with the Ben Franklins and purchase a pair of these today. You'll be glad you did and the only issue you will have is trying to decide what to do with your current set of cans!

I bought these mainly for my production and being able to mix without the use of monitors. First time using them they were amazing very detailed and flat just like i needed them. I have some trouble with the high end but thats just me learning the headphones. I think these are great and def. recommend them!

Everything good has been said previously and I won't repeat. Trust the others, they are correct. They WHY needs to be explained just a little. Why make headphones that can transmit sounds outside of the range of human hearing? Seems to be a waste of technology, eh? No. Those subsonic and ultrasonic waves are just as much in the mix as any others, and their fundamentals affect the sound of the audible waves. By being able to recreate even the inaudible sounds, these headphones reproduce the full richness of all the sound just as it is in nature. Without those inaudible waves, the audible sound is lacking and the brain can't figure out why; it just feels disappointed somehow. These M70x headphones are engineered to eliminate even the most subliminal disappointment and deliver 100% joy. That's all I need to say. Thanks for listening, and we'll leave the light on for you.

"I can hear better now"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have been using ATH headphones since ATH M50 wayyyy before the ATHM50X and M70X. Let me just say that all of their headphones are great and they have a wide variety of headphones that suit anyone. Whether it's just everyday listening, in a band or if you're a producer like myself. From the moment I put on these cans I can immediately hear every detail of a song and when I use them to mix my songs I hear all dimensions of every instrument that was placed in the song. This headphone is a cheat code for the cost in my opinion. I was about to buy the Focal professional headphones which obviously would have run me into way more than just $229 but no matter, these get the job done for me at this point. For those that are thinking about buying one my question is why wait any longer?

I bought these headphones for mixing as well as casual listening and they are the best headphones I've owned. I prefer the balanced, accurate sound from these over any other headphones. I always heard about having to burn them in to get the best sound, but they honestly sounded great straight out of the box (I'm sure they'll sound even better down the road).

"Worth twice asking price"

The $300 price tag might seem a lot but give these one listen and you’ll think these were mis-labeled and should cost $500 plus. It’s actually like taking two top-shelf studio monitors and putting a padded headband on them. WAY better than my $500 Bose. That’s just fact. Listen once and I promise you will have to have a pair.

"Not for the mobile DJ"

I’m a full time DJ, 4-7 nights a week. The sound quality of these headphones are excellent, the durability, not so much. I purchased these from zZounds about 8 months ago. After the first month, I returned them to zZounds because the left cup broke. zZounds replaced them, no problem. 8 months in, the same problem. I’m constantly putting and taking my headphones on and off. I need something that can take some abuse. My Beats By Dre held up for years. I just purchased Pioneer DJ HDJ x10 hoping for better results. If you are in the studio or using for everyday listening, great. If you are a working DJ, I wouldn’t recommend.

"I would not buy for DJ or road work. They are fragile with no abuse."

Sent them back for repair because the earpiece swivel broke in just a few months after purchase. It is a 2-year warranty ...they repaired and sent back. The earpiece has broken off again and its after the warranty. I record a radio program each week and they were never abused because I record at my desk with computer. I would not recommend for DJ work or for traveling. If they broke with me, they for sure won't last on the road. The price is for looks and sound. The price is not for ruggedness. Fragile
