"Great Headphones"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

These headphones are the best I've had. The sound reproduction includes widest range of High-Mids & Low-Mids. As most of you know it's hard to find an affordable headset for recording/mixing/listening in the under $100 range. There comfortable to wear for extended use, I'm a drummer. These headphones are not BASS HEAVY. But you can hear and feel the lows & highs too. Being on a tight budget like so many I'm glad I bought these.

"great combo of comfort and sound"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Bought these to complement my Avantone Pro MP1s because while those are amazing they're on the heavy side. Needed something lightweight and less fussy for just editing, recording, and listening, and these AT M40s are perfect! Love the lighter weight and folding cups for space on my desk. They look great when live-streaming, too. Now I can save the Avatones for mixing and then use these MT40s for everything else. There's a definite downgrade in sound versus the Avantones, but the ATs are perfectly fine for everything but mixing (which might be a challenge).
Sound
This is gonna be picky because I'm used to the Avantones. Compared to those, these MT40s are a touch on the upper-bassy side, and a little less clear on the top end. Sound separation is pretty good, though the stereo image (which is never gonna be ideal on any cans) isn't nearly as wide as I'd like. You could probably mix on these if you're super careful about that upper bass and lack of top end. Compared to the Avantones these are almost muffled, but again, it's not a fair comparison. These are just fine for recording, editing, and just listening, and you definitely win in the comfort department (mostly...see below).
Features
Love the light weight and the folding cups seriously help my space situation on the desk. Gotta admit they look really cool whenever I'm on video or live streaming. The actual ear cups seem as comfortable as any other cans...with my ears, there's a little physical fatigue from the cups after 20 minutes but for me that's typical.
Ease of Use
Mixing's might be a little tricky but experienced mixers would probably do just fine with some compensating. These cans work just fine for editing and recording. For listening these work pretty well, but if you want to hear all the details on a song these might not do it for you. But OVERALL if you need 1 set of cans to do everything, these are a good choice.
Quality
They feel solid. Lots of plastic going on, but that saves on weight and promotes comfort. If I were redesigning them I'd add a little more padding on the top band and have cushier ear cups. The cables attach securely. I can see these lasting for several years.
Value
For around $100 you get a good all-arounder by a trusted name. If you're producing and mixing, you might wanna upgrade to the next price tier), but I got these as a complement to my Avantone Pro MP1s
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to contact them yet and don't anticipate needing too.
The Wow Factor
I'm being shallow here but these look really cool especially if you're a live-streamer or on video a lot. Feeling their light weight on my head and seeing how much space they save with the folding cups made these a no-brainer for me at $100.

"Fragile, but the money is in the drivers and tuning."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I honestly feel like I'm gonna snap these. They are covered with plastic. These are my first studio headphones. There is no hype in bass and they are not harsh. I'm able to hear things in songs that I couldn't hear on cheap ear buds. The m30x also have 40mm drivers, for $30 less. With all the plastic on these, I believe the money is in the drivers and the tuning. I'm probably just extra careful since they are expensive, but these headphones will definitely snap. If you step on them, its game over. These also clamp hard if you wear them around your neck. The headband was more comfortable than I thought it would be. Take care of these, and you should be pleased. Also, I haven't broken these in. I've spent a few hours listening and mixing, and I'm happy. 5 stars to zzounds for flexible payments and 1 day shipping.

These headphones have absolutely great sound performance with a wide range of music reproduction. They actually compete with a good quality external speakers. They are comfortable to wear for extended use and store easily in the carry case. These headphones have a better sound quality than those of considerably higher price

I've had these for about a year and I give them high marks all the way around. I've had cans that cost much more that couldn't compare with these. I would recommend these big time to someone who wanted pro quality sound production in a comfortable package for not a lot of money. Great buy.

These headphones are the bessst! They sound flat and accurate. They reproduce sounds very accurately. They sound like my Mackie studio reference monitors. I am very impressed to find headphones of this quality for less than 100 dollars. I am very satisfied with these headphones.

Got the ATH-M40x as a back up set. Great sound that's pretty transparent and flat enough to mix on.
