I have a full stack Ashdown EVO 500 and 2 4/10 cabs . Great for gigs but too much trouble for one guy for grab and go sessions. I did lots of research on combos and this was my choice for Blues and Classic Rock. It sits well in the mix and has that classic Ampeg tone. Fat, Round and Bassy and you can dial in a little grit if you like. The onboard Compressor is good and my Darkglass on my Pedal Board is not needed. The cab Construction is top notch and the Black Diamond Tolex gives it a nice old school touch. It being a Portaflex you can mount the amp to the lid and safely transport it to and fro. Great tone and as is with one cab you got 400 watts @ 8 ohms. Ampeg Technical Support has been top notch replying to several questions I had pre and post purchase.

I've always used Fender and Peavey Amps. When I bought this amp I did so wanting to down size. First gig everyone on the bandstand was blown away. Tone and power are there. I am more than pleased with my amp.

A) Great amp. Tone Controls have a very satisfactory range. Plus everything you need for gigging and recording. B) zZounds shipped the thing SO FAST. Ordered it Thursday night. Saturday morning checked the tracking status, it was already on a truck a few towns over. C) Love The Flip Top. D) Lightweight for an amp this good. Also the Castors. Super convenient. E) Pricey. I would never have bought this amp if it weren't for the Pay as you Play deal. I'm spending extra money in the long run to have a good amp now, rather than save up cash for the rest of the year.

Musical Background:

I've been playing bass in a band for three years. Also dabble in home recording.

"Beware of "shutdown mode" issues"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

Purchased this half stack combo and added the PF-115 cab hoping for a big, big sound, which it delivered, sort-of, but only temporarily. The issue came in with the head. It is easy to find reports in various forums about this head shutting down on players at stage volumes, but many more recent posts had seemed to indicate that this issue had been remedied in newer updates and versions, and that the bugs had been worked out. But lo and behold, heavy picking at stage volumes or slapping would cause the head to go into shutdown mode where all sound cuts out. I engaged with Ampeg customer service and was really not given any actionable advice for how to eliminate this problem. The tech seemed to be arguing that my active pickups and playing style were to blame. These heads seem to work really well for some players, but if you play a more aggressive style or have an instrument with a custom or unusually "hot" pickup configuration, I would strongly advise you to test this head out before buying. No amount of rolling off my volume knobs, nor the compressor built into the amp, could totally eliminate this issue for me. To me this is an unacceptable design flaw, and I'm not even a professional.More importantly, I mainly wanted to write this review to call out the absolutely great customer service of zZounds, who processed my return quickly and efficiently. Happily chose a different rig (Peavey Mini-mega & 410 Headliner) from them and so far so good. I wanted that Ampeg sound, but it was not to be.

I bought this product and it arrived in a new box but when I used it on my first gig it turned off and I still have that problem since then the amplifier turns off every time I play a loud note, I don't like it and I have no way to Take it to a customer service center since I live in Mexico, it cost me too much and I'm not getting any benefit from it, it's a shame
