I'm a rock drummer, so there's no choice at all. New Beat 14s can do anything I need to do with hats, subtle or aggressive. It costs nearly $50 more to get a little more vibey texture and character than this, and you trade off the ability to get aggressive-sounding. If I had to have the absolute top end mellow vibey studio kit for soft rock or jazzy stuff I'd get K Custom Special Dry 13s and not look back, but no way. You can always tap the New Beats gently and use finesse.

Sound
This is a rock hi-hat, but more than that, it's got just about the broadest evenest sound of anything out there. For less aggressive music play lightly and allow the New Beat's projection to cut through. It extends way into the treble but doesn't have a overbright quality, and very little clangy ugly resonances. One expensive sounding hat.

Features
Versatile. Played lightly it will get along with much lighter sounding drums and cymbals because it projects so well that you don't have to hit hard, or it can blend tonally with the heaviest Ziljdian crashes. Unlike some more specialized hats there aren't many playing techniques that won't be usable here- you don't have to lay into it, at all, to make it sound right.

Ease of Use
Don't see how it could be better.

Quality
No problems here either...

Value
The only other hat I think is absolute top of the line read more is the K Custom Special Dry 13s, and those are much more light studio hats and less versatile, they just have even better articulation and evenness for what they are. New Beat 14s sell for somewhat less. I can't recommend them highly enough, love mine.

Manufacturer Support
Can't imagine using support. Whoever heard of cymbal repair? Anyway, these are pretty sturdy hats- especially since you don't need to bash them, they should be forever, literally.

The Wow Factor
I went to a store and tried every hat they had, and I had to have the New Beat 14s, period- even though I got to hear a pair of K Custom Special Dry 13s in person too (!) and fell in love with them as well.
