Manufacturer's Description for Rolls MX153 Mix Mate 5-Channel Mixer

The MX153 is a one-half rack space, two microphone and three stereo source mixer. The unit provides a compact and efficient way to mix sources such as AM/FM tuners, CD players, and video players with dynamic or condenser microphones. Applications include background music and paging for small clubs, churches, schools, restaurants, and much more.

- Treble or Bass cut controls for each mic

- Three stereo source inputs

- Bass and Treble controls on source 1 & 2

- Signal muting (ducking) on mic 1 & source 3

- Switchable Mono or Stereo mode on unbalanced outputs

- Uses 12VDC power for easy use in mobile applications

Each microphone channel has a Level and Tone control. Sources One and Two have Level adjustments and pass through combined Bass and Treble controls. Source Three has a Level adjustment only. The Microphone inputs are balanced XLR jacks, all Source inputs are stereo RCA except for the front 1/8 jack on CH3 for an MP3 player, etc. The main output is stereo RCA.

An included 12VDC adapter (Rolls PS27) provides power to the unit. A series of six DIP switches provide important features to the MX153. Two switches apply the 12VDC of phantom power to the individual Microphone Inputs. A second switch sums the program material of Source Three to mono, and a third sums the overall output to mono. Another switch provides priority ducking to Source Three input allowing that channel to mute the other source inputs for use with a jukebox. The final switch configures Microphone Input One as a paging input, ducking the other microphone and Sources One and Two. zZounds is an authorized dealer of Rolls products.

Sound: The unit is being used in a Spinning exercise room to combine instructors voice with the music. It is working very well, was very easy to set up and balance. The mic input sounds a little tinny but that may be tone settings on the receiver that is used or I have the tone settings for the microphone set incorrectly. I would definitly buy another one of these for this application. Feature: For this application where I needed to combine Mic input with line input from a CD player or iPod into a consumer level receiver, this works great. Other mixers did not have as many line inputs. This seems to have been designed for this application. Ease of Use: The manual was clear enough. I have experence with electronics but do not have experience with live sound. The staff at ZZounds were great in their response to a couple of what must have seemed like very simplistic questions. Quality: product worked well right out of the box and appears to be made well. Value: Absolutely a great value. Manufacturer Support: Asked questions of both the vendor and manufacturer and both responded quickly and completely. The Wow Factor: it is a practical addition allowing all sound to go through one set of speakers. It used to be the music through the main speakers and voice through a mono portable PA system. Overall: i'll keep my eyes open but as long as it's working, I'll let well enough alone. This was a donation to a local Y.
