Repairing a cracked top of a fine guitar is expensive, and it can alter its sound. To solve this problem, guitarists have been using "sound hole" humidifiers since the 1960's. These humidifiers have… read more significant shortcomings. You can't see when they need to be refilled, and when you do refill them, they can be overfilled and drip inside your expensive instrument. This is because all currently available "sound hole" humidifiers have openings to allow for water evaporation. The job of protecting your guitar against leaks is left to an absorbent medium like a sponge or floral foam, which can be easily over saturated with water.

Oasis(R) has developed a better answer to humidification and solved these problems by using a completely different approach. The body of the Oasis(R) Guitar Humidifier is made from a specially designed fabric that allows water vapor, but not water, to pass through it. As the vapor transmission takes place, a vacuum is created and Oasis(R) shrinks to compensate for the loss of water. Because you can see the Oasis(R) shrink, it's easy to determine when it is ready for refill. Also, you don't have to guess when it is full. Simply unscrew the black cap, fill with water to the top of the container, and replace the cap. Once sealed, the water-tight container is your first line of defense against leaks. Humigel(TM), the super absorbent polymer crystals inside Oasis(R), is your second line of defense. Humigel(TM) captures up to 500 times its weight in water in an absorbent gel matrix.

Like other "sound hole" humidifiers, Oasis(R) fits between the strings of your guitar. The materials that touch your strings are relatively soft and won't scratch. A blue polyurethane stabilizing bar fits over the neck of the humidifier. Once positioned in the sound hole, the stabilizing bar lies across the guitar strings to ensure even weight distribution. The Oasis(R) Guitar Humidifier never touches the body of your instrument.

Because tap and bottled water contain dissolved minerals that can clog the liner, distilled water is recommended to extend the useful life of your humidifier.

OH-5 Humidifier

While the original Blue Oasis(R) provides sufficient humidity in many environments, it is not effective everywhere. The humidity demands of the desert, mountain states or frigid north exceed the humidification capacity of the device. For this reason, we have developed the Oasis(R) Plus+ humidifier. The Plus+ is the same size and shape as the original blue Oasis(R), but is made of a different material which provides 50% more humidity output.

Because the Oasis(R) Plus+ HumidifierPlus+ is the same size as the original Blue Oasis(R) and it has 50% greater humidity output, it will be necessary to refill the Oasis(R) Plus+ more frequently than the original Blue Oasis(R).

If one is using a hygrometer, we recommend that the Oasis(R) Plus+ be used when the room humidity is below 25%. The original Blue Oasis(R) should be used when the surrounding room humidity is between 25-40%. Above, 40%, you should not be using a humidifier.

It is important to also to monitor the humidity inside your instrument case. Case size, design, material and other factors will impact the humidity permeability of each case. While general rules are helpful, a good hygrometer located inside the instrument case will give you the best information regarding proper humidification requirements.

OH-6 Case Humidifier

The huge success of our original blue Oasis(R) "sound-hole" Guitar Humidifier brought numerous inquiries about how to provide humidification for other wooden instruments such as violins, violas, cellos, mandolins, jazz guitars, guitars with flat top cases, and some woodwind instruments like clarinets. After careful consideration and research, we developed our Oasis(R) Case Humidifier.

This style of Oasis(R) humidifier attaches to the inside of your instrument case. It gives you the same reliability and ease of use as our original humidifier, outperforming other case and instrument humidifiers by doing the following:

- Making it easy to see when it's time to refill.
- Providing long-lasting humidification.
- Ensuring no leakage due to overfilling.
- Promising two levels of leak protection.

Oasis case humidifier in useHow does it work? A neodymium magnet* in the humidifier enables you securely attach it inside your case, while still being able to easily remove and re-attach it to either a steel belt-style clip or a stainless steel strip with adhesive backing (both are provided with the humidifier). The belt-style clip fits over the side of your case, providing a flat vertical surface to which the magnet can adhere. The adhesive-backed stainless steel strip allows for either vertical or horizontal attachment anywhere there is a flat surface inside the case.** This type of humidifier provides the flexibility to position the humidifier in a wide variety of locations within your instrument case.

A 10cc. syringe comes with the humidifier increasing your control while filling and refilling. Since the Oasis(R) Case Humidifier holds about 32cc's of water, it will take 3+ syringes of water to fill the first time. After that, refills should only take 1+ syringe of water. Because tap and bottled water contain dissolved minerals that can clog the liner, distilled water is recommended to extend the useful life of your humidifier.

OH-14 Case Humidifier

The Oasis Case Plus+ Humidifier uses the same evaporative membrane as the Oasis Plus+ Humidifier, providing 50% more daily humidity than the Oasis Case Humidifier.

This humidifier is designed for use in drier environments where the relative humidity is below 25%. The Oasis Case Plus+ humidifier, like the Oasis Case Humidifier, uses a small but powerful magnet, which is embedded in the seam of the humidifier, to attach to either a small sticky-backed piece of stainless steel or a metal clip (both are provided with the humidifier).

The Oasis Case Plus+ Humidifier can be used in stringed instrument cases such as violin, viola cello, guitar, or mandolin.

OH-2 Hygrometer

When the relative humidity drops below 40%, a guitar, or any stringed musical instrument made of wood, is at risk of cracking or warping. The Oasis(R) Digital Hygrometer accurately measures relative humidity, helping you decide when to protect your instrument with the Oasis(R) Guitar Humidifier. Because relative humidity varies so much, even inside your home, we recommend that you keep your hygrometer close to your instrument.

How does it work? To get an accurate humidity reading for the guitar body, we recommend that you first lay the guitar case with the back to the floor and open the cover. Take a small piece of cloth, and place it under the hygrometer to avoid scratching the top of your guitar. Put the hygrometer on the guitar top with the sensor at the edge of the sound hole. Close the case, and allow 4-6 hours for the humidity to stabilize. Open the case and look at the reading within a few seconds, and you get the humidity reading that existed just before you opened the case.

Because the Oasis humidifier will somewhat distort the humidity reading, take readings with the Oasis humidifier in place and take readings without the Oasis humidifier. A well-humidified guitar in its case will have relatively stable humidity readings, so you don't have to measure the humidity all the time.

Since the hygrometer is not secured, take special care NOT to move the case while the hygrometer is in this position.
