Manufacturer's Description for Marshall MA100C Guitar Combo Amplifier (100 Watts, 2x12 in.)

Marshall are pleased to announce that they have taken things to the next level by removing the solid state pre-amp and power amp sections ever present in Valvestate amplifiers and are able to offer a true all-valve amplifier range within the same price bracket, the MA range. All models in the MA range are fully valve powered and deliver that unmistakeable Marshall tone. They are the perfect stepping stone between every guitarist's first Marshall and one of their own iconic UK built tone monsters.

The MA100C has been carefully designed by Marshall's Research & Development team using the same basic principles as for all Marshall amps; to create an amplifier that delivers something new and exciting for everyone. By keeping the amplifier simple the Marshall MA100C is able to deliver the benefits of all-valve tone and colour, while maintaining an attractive price tag. What is more, like every Marshall, it is built to survive 'the road'. So as well as making it the perfect choice for everyone's first all-valve amplifier, the MA100C is the perfect choice for people who want to take their sound on tour. The MA range offers a valve amp from Marshall that is more accessible than ever before.

Attractive Looks

The aesthetics of the Marshall MA100C have been specially designed to create a look that stands apart from most other amplifiers from Marshall, while still retaining the essence of what people have become familiar with for over 45 years. Two orange LED's illuminate the interior of the unit, highlighting the power valves. This effect is visible through the fret cloth where the trusty white script logo is mounted onto a solid piece of transparent Perspex.

Classic Tone Executed Properly

The Marshall MA100C are powered using the traditional Marshall mainstays of ECC83 double triode valves in the preamp, and EL34 pentode valves in the power amp. The layout and controls are kept simple, allowing you to explore unhindered the full potential of the all-valve tone within. The MA100C benefits from separate equalization stages for both the Clean channel and Overdrive channel allowing you to optimally adjust each one without compromising the other. An extra benefit has been provided in the form of a valve driven 'Boost' function on the OD channel giving you, for example, a solo boost with more volume and gain. The MA100C also contains a spring reverb for use with all channels within the amp.

Intuitive and Easy to Use

The Marshall MA100C was designed with the flexible control demanded by today's players in mind but with a streamlined feature set to keep it cost effective.

Whether in your own home or gigging, setting up the MA100C's sounds and relative levels is very easy; Starting at the Overdrive Channel with the Boost enabled. This mode can deliver the highest gain and offers some real mean Marshall signature grind for effortless soloing or powerful metal riffing. When you are happy with your 'solo' mode then disengage the MA100C's boost to give you your rhythm or crunch sound. The volume and gain of this mode is further controlled by the 'Crunch Balance', (this control does not affect the Boosted mode). The Crunch Balance enables a player to preset the gain/volume difference between their rhythm and solo modes and the key to success is the careful balancing of the Overdrive Volume, Gain and Crunch Balance controls. Finally, the MA100C's Clean Channel with its own dedicated EQ section can be set to match up with the Overdrive channel.

The Marshall MA100C's supplied footswitch assists live performance by allowing the player to toggle between settings; i.e. Clean to Overdrive, Clean to Boosted Overdrive and Overdrive to Boosted Overdrive ensuring maximum versatility.

Extras

Even though the Marshall MA100C is designed as a no frills all-valve guitar amplifier, Marshall have included a couple of extra features that allow for yet more versatility in this amplifier range, ensuring the MA100C really does offer the best choice.

In addition to the all-valve pre-amp and power amp tone achievable, the MA100C is equipped with an onboard spring reverb tank which allows you to add an extra dimension to your sound. The reverb chosen perfectly compliments the valve tone of the MA100C and using the front panel reverb level control you can dial in how much you need for your own taste.

As well as an outstanding onboard reverb, Marshall MA100Cs are equipped with a serial external effects loop for guitarists who want to add effects units into their sound. The nominal level of -10dBV is suited to stomp boxes primarily but not exclusively. zZounds is an authorized dealer of Marshall products.

Sound: Comparing this 100 watt tube amp side by side with my 8 year old Valvestate 50 watter with one 12 inch speaker, I can say that this new tube amp has a much better sound, tighter cleaner bass and more presence. The 100 watter on the clean channel has glassy shimmering highs like the old Led Zep stuff. I bought this amp primarily for the 100 watt clean channel as the single volume control insures a continuous tapering of increased volume when turned up without the annoying gain knob that pop up on Bogner and Peavey clean channels. The distortion channels are a bit of work to dial in so I prefer clean channel wit a pedal like the Roger Mayer Spitfire or my old yellow metal DOD fx-50 preamp/overdrive pedal. Quality: The tolex had a tear on my new amp and I needed to place a sticker over it, no big deal, its made in Vietnam. There is also a torn piece of pressed wood that represents the back panel. The workmanship is not perfect. It needs to be improved. The speakers are made in China, they are 75 watt Eminence and are not bad. Think Roland Jazz Chorus with tubes and no chorus and you have this Marshall. The 50 watt version is the same size as my 100 watter so thats why I bought the bigger amp, plus I need the clean headroom, 50 watts isnt enough clean headroom with Marshall. Personally I think the distortion channels are for dorks but thats just my opinion. I use pedals instead. Value: I think this isnt a bad deal since Marshall charges twice as much for their British made amps. Overall: Hey its a tube amp, you aint gonna get this sound with solid state. I think you can do better than this Marshall only if you are willing to pay more for a boutique amp, or if you prefer Fender they are also fine and have a louder clean channel watt for watt.

Sound: For the price and it being a marshall tube amp you cant beat it. I played this live the other day with my gibson lp studio and it completely blew me away. The overdrive needs some tweaking to find your own sound, I just used a ibanez tube screamer with my dunlop crybaby through the effects loop on the clean channel and it sounded amazing. The boos channel on the footswitch was nice gives more gain and volume on solos. the 2x12" with 100 watts is plenty of power for a un mic'd gig. Buy it Feature: Comes with the footswitch to change between clean, overdrive, and the boost channel. Overdrive isnt the best for hard rock or metal but it doesnt loose any tone or warmth if you use it. The boos channel was awesome even through the effects loop it didnt skip a beat. Ease of Use: Easy to use, just like any other amp you buy find your sound by tweaking and experimenting Quality: Seems like a sherman tank that has speakers built in it. Classic beautifull marshall looks and quality. Value: Easily the best bang for your buck on the market right now. Its an all tube marshall that speaks for itself. Manufacturer Support: Checked five because I havent had to deal with any problems or customer support. It comes with a five year warranty if you fill out and send in the registration card. The Wow Factor: Again, its a classic marshall it screams rockstar Overall: The only reason I would buy a differant amp is if money was no object. Musicians and money are rarely in the same room. I looked for a long time for a tube amp I wanted and could afford, I played everything from bugera to peavy and nothing in this price range even comes close.
