Mapex MB5255A M Birch Standard 5-Piece Drum Kit

Drum throne and cymbals not included.

The M Birch, new from Mapex, gives you the sound you've been waiting for. The shells are made from multiple birch plies with an exterior maple veneer, giving you great tone - and a great look. The shells deliver incredible attack at the high end, a narrower mid-range and significant 'punch' at the bottom end. The exterior maple ply is finished with eight coats of hand applied, transparent lacquer for a shell that looks as good as it sounds.

The Best Drum Shells Start with the Best Wood
Mapex selects only the finest woods for its shells. With individual plies less than 1 mm thick, the result is overall stronger and thinner shell. The seams are staggered around the shell, providing additional strength and acoustic distribution. Each drum is finished off with a precision-ground 45 degree bearing edge, counter-cut at 0.5mm for optimum tone.

Hand rubbed with tender-loving care.
Mapex drums are given eight coats of hand-applied lacquer, each of which are hand rubbed, to give the finish a deep, high-gloss shine. Mapex lacquer finishes are tough and easy to maintain and are crystal clear, allowing the beauty of the premium veneer to show through.

Physics meets aesthetics.
The Mapex Isolated Tom System protects the shell’s integrity and allows toms to vibrate freely, ensuring maximum projection and resonance. The Mapex Isolated Tom System is discrete and visually attractive and adds very little weight to the drum.

The worst thing to do to a drum is to drill a hole in it.
Fewer read more holes means truer tone and resonance. That’s why all Mapex drums use single point contact lugs. Only one hole is drilled into the shell for each lug, protecting the shells’ tonal properties. The lugs are low in mass as well, meaning less direct contact with shell, also protecting the overall integrity of the drum.

How can a thick piece of felt enhance sustain?
It can’t. That’s why Mapex 950 and 550 series Performing Artist Hardware comes with OS Cymbal Accentuators. Minimal contact with cymbal gives you maximum sustain. Unlike felt, the OS Cymbal Accentuator wont compress or shred and enjoy a longer life.

Playable quality right out of the box.
Mapex drums are exclusively equipped with Remo drum heads. Like Mapex, Remo is a worldwide symbol of quality manufacturing and premium performance.Orion and Saturn drumsets are shipped with premium quality Remo WeatherKing Ambassador heads.

I play two to three gigs weekly. I will play this kit for years and years to come. The only thing that would lead me to replace this kit is if my band gets signed and the record co lets me buy what ever I choose, at which point I would choose mapex again (top of the line kit).

Sound
Ditch the batter (top) heads right away. Put Evans Genera 2 clear or coated heads on the toms, An Evans emad on the kick and a Evans Genera coated with a inner muffle ring on the snare and you will be blown away with how great this kit will sound.

Features
The product as a whole is very user friendly.

Ease of Use
very easy to set up and use.

Quality
A good friend of mine is a seasoned pro. He does a lot of studio work, teaches and gigs with many different bands. He put Evans Genera 2 heads on my kit. He was blown away the M-birch. In his opinion the construction, the finish, the sound and quality of the hardware met the standards of kits twice the price.

Value
You can't beat the value of the m-birch. The package as a whole is an insane deal. With the free tom you have the set up for many different gig situations. Some times I play it as a four peice, it's very versatile.

Manufacturer Support
My other kit is a Mapex venus that I have had for 8 years and never had an issue with it. I'm sure that this kit is just read more as rugged.

The Wow Factor
I ordered an emerald green kit and when it arrived it had a blem in the kick. Zzounds was right on top of it, they had a new honey amber on the way to me that day with return ups labels for the first kit. The honey amber in my opinion is the most bad ass natural looking finish I have seen on a kit to date. when set up on stage it jumps out and says check me out. People are always asking me where did you get that kit and constantly comenting on the beauty of the finish.
