I would love to hold one in person, sit down and out it through its paces. If this bass with new strings and set up can convince me that it's better than a Squier wit an Alder body, tight neck, AVRI Pickups, orange cap, new jack...vintage wiring...the whole bit. Add the $15 covers and the $8 thumb rest.... Lake Placid blue with all the frills. For the purist this Fender is a must have. For a gigging musician such as myself I'll take the 2-300$ variant and replace everything inner such as pickups/wring/pots/jack. A good tight neck that can drop D with no flutter, holds its own every single time. No need to spend all that cash unless it's a nostalgic thing Fender makes great products these days at even the lower level (still don't care for the bullet series) but, the Affinity series post 2013 is a real 'WTF'? because for some odd reason the last two i've bought and upgraded surpass my Classic vibe bass. no Joke. The basswood body on the classic vibe was so dense, had no punch...actually needed 500k pots to bring to get any life out of it...so that was the trick. The 2 Affinity Basses I own I would put up against any pro bass with good pickups and wiring and set up properly. The bodies and necks are Great! Just replac the guts and you have that classic. Add the F cover and neck pup cover, thumbrest....put a strap peg over 'China' on the headstock and voila. Pure vintage on the cheap. Recorded a CD with my band using the modded up Affinity, and it sounds as good as any old bass read more that once dialed in and brought up in the mix sounded incredible. It's all what you make of it.
