Sound Generation
One of the aspects that makes Logic Pro 6 a unique professional music and audio production system is the comprehensive collection of software read more instruments that it includes.

All of the instruments offer the same level of pristine sound quality, achieved through the use of 32 Bit internalprocessing. The utilization of modern technologies, such as component modelling algorithms, are the basis for calculating the most complex of sounds - in real time!

A delightful side-effect of this uncompromising stance towards our technology is the brilliant responsiveness of the instruments, with even the smallest nuances in playing style being reflected sonically. The exclusive selection of instruments offered by Logic Pro 6 features; a software sampler, synthesizer and virtual counterparts of vintage keyboards, including the Hammond B3 Organ and Hohner D6 Clavinet.

The seamless integration of these instruments into Logic Pro 6 guarantees optimal handling and processing, no matter where you wish to use the system - on stage or in the studio. You can even use it while travelling - on your PowerBook!

The instruments are easily inserted into an audio instrument channel strip of the Logic Mixer. The integrated track-based automation system of Logic Pro 6 allows you to graphically display and edit the parameters of the instruments, and if you have a hardware controller, these parameters can be adjusted and recorded as well.

Sound Processing
Given the dramatic increase in computer processing power we have seen over the past few years, the potential - and reality - of digital sound processing has developed at a staggering rate. This "native" sound processing - calculated directly on the computer processor(s) - substitutes the use of external DSP's (Digital Signal Processors) and effect devices.

Logic Pro 6 delivers over 50 realtime effect plug-ins, allowing for the most innovative audio processing. The basic technical specifications - 32 Bit floating point mathematics and support of audio resolutions up to 24 Bit/192 kHz - ensure uncompromising sound quality.

The included plug-ins are precision tools for sound processing. offering a straightforward interface that enables the user to conceptualize and realize any sound design visions with the minimum of fuss. The intuitive, ergonomic interface and professionally-oriented feature set of our plug-ins is the combined result of the extensive studio experience of Emagic's plug-in developers, and the active exchange of knowledge with countless users. A multitude of forward looking functions have been implemented, with many going far beyond the feature sets and ideas of traditional plug-in concepts.

In addition to the built-in effect system, Digidesign's TDM system for ProTools hardware is completely supported, including surround. Depending on the configuration, up to 64 audio tracks and 64 busses are available. TDM plug-ins from all major developers can be used and fully automated. I/O inserts even allow the integration of external audio effect processors.

I'll be satisfied with Logic for as long as emagic keeps making it. I've shopped around for other products in the past, but I keep coming back to Logic. It works equally well for the intermediate level as it does for the pro level and the $1000 package has enough goodies in it to keep you knob twiddling needs under control. Speaking of plug-ins such as the ES2. Many software synths try to emulate hardware to the point of utter frustration for your mouse. Emagic's plug-ins are designed from the ground up to be easy to use in a virtual environment and doesn't have button b next to knob a just because it was easier to use physically.

Sound
I've been using logic for years and the software synths that are bundled with the current version are much easier to use than many stand alone products I have tried to use in the past. I haven't had any trouble with creating arrangements of wholly software based music on my Dual 1GHz G4 with 768MB Ram. I haven't really noticed a defined sound that Logic has. I've worked with everything from Industrial to Acoustic and I've always been able to flesh out the overall sound however I wanted.

Features
For me, the built in effects plug-ins have virtually put my hardware processors out to pasture. In the past I used to run a few plug-ins and add effects track by track with my hardware processors, but now I'm using the software plug-ins almost all the time. You really can't compete read more with simultaneous processing on every channel via hardware with a smaller budget like mine.

Quality
I remember back in the day of Logic 3.5 thru 4.7. When the program crashed, you were presented with a save dialog box, which didn't always work. But it saved hours of work on occasion. Logic in it's fully OSX-ish glory runs as solid as I could imagine. Looking back on OS9. It's time to move on. The sheer stability of OSX has completely erased the hours of hair pulling (and re-booting) that I've done in the past. Using Logic on tour used to be a big problem for me. My Wife's iBook G3 333MHz with it's little 5400rpm HD could never run my files unless I stripped OS9 down to it's bare bones and offered the gods of data a goat or two. With Logic Pro 6, my new PowerBook can handle everything I throw at it and more. That sure beats dragging aournd the Beast (UMAX S900 w/ G3 300MHz, 200MB RAM, 3 Hard Drives and the old reliable AudioWerk8 Card).

Value
$2500 worth of goodies in a $1000 package. You can't beat that. Unless of course you think that all software should be free.

Manufacturer Support
I'll rate this 10 out of 10. I used emagic's tech support once in 1998. I haven't had a problem since then. I had emailed their tech support and got a response withing 24 hours and which included a detailed solution to my problem and some other tips to related problems I have yet to experience.

The Wow Factor
It's been getting better every year. Except for that um, year or two it wouldn't run in OSX. The fully automated features are great.

Musical Style:
Electro-Industrial and Techno or electronic or whatever they call it these days. My wife works with Acoustic, Pop and Alternati
