I friend of mine asked me to play bass for his band; I never played bass officially before but had thirty years of guitar. So I said, "I'll give it a shot." I traded a guitar for this Dean Zone straight across. I wasn't sure about the one pup thing; if it would have enough for a harder sound. Every practice the guys are like, 'wow man that bass sounds good!' I tend to agree.

Sound
It's funny, my vocalist ask me about how to get different tones the other night; I told him it depends on your position. Higher sound towards the bridge, mid over the pup, and low up by the fretboard. I can thump it or pick it, sounds good either way. We play progressive I guess; not quite metal. Fills the background perfectly. For a better sound, I put on D'Addario nickel wound EXL 170 BT strings; perfect match in my opinion.

Features
Like I said, I just transferred over to bass, but I like the simplicity. One volume, one tone. I just turn `em up and use my positioning for different tones. Like a good car or bike, just start it up and go!

Ease of Use
The thing I like about this bass, especially compared to a guitar is the ease of use. I don't know if it is true for all basses, but most of the time I don't even need to watch what I am doing. It fits my hands perfectly.

Quality
Nothing complicated, so it should last awhile.

Value
Well, I have a read more good Ampeg bass rig (well the band does); and at home I play on a Laney BC75. Anyway, my point is, yeah, it's well worth the price. If you are just getting started, by all means, buy it!

Manufacturer Support
I haven't had a need for support; it's a Dean.

The Wow Factor
Everybody has there own style. But I like the headstock; I looked at least a hundred basses, and I wanted something different that the fender style or the extreme BC Rich or Schecters. The color on mine is a burnt orange color, and it's plain, but I am more concerned with sound that appearances.

Musical Background:
Playing guitar for thirty years. I play at home and in a band.

Musical Style:
Rock, hard rock, metal, and somewhere in between.
