CastleRock Metal Driver Distortion Pedal
No longer available at zZounds
A killer value, the CastleRock Metal Driver pedal adds classic metal distortion to your guitar tone: tight lows, semi-scooped mids, and aggressive highs.
Overview
The CastleRock Metal Driver pedal is not your typical distortion pedal, because metal requires a very different type of distortion. The Metal Driver delivers powerful and tight low end, semi-scooped mids, and an aggressive upper end. This is not your dad's blues pedal, that's for sure. The Level control adjusts the volume between the pedals In and Out, the Filter control sweeps the timbre, and the Gain control adjusts the level of audio destruction. it features a metal chassis, rubber footswitch tread, non slip rubber back.

Overall build quality
PROS: Solid housing, quality pots (smooth linear travel throughout the sweep), well packaged, thick tread to keep pedals from sliding away (velcro probably wouldn't stick though), easy to read instruction manual. Fantastic compared to other pedals in the same price point.
CONS: Chromed-over plastic knobs feel light/weak/cheap, small/weak led indicators, boring decals/control labels/no personality doesn't mesh with the look of the pedal.
Sound quality
Pretty standard "high gain" distortion like a Boss Metal Zone. Filter knob has very limited usable range, everything from noon and to the left is too muddy to work in a live band scenario. Gain knob gets fizzle-y in the upper 1/4 of the sweep. Not really usable to drive a tube amp into overdrive. Basically overwrites any of your amp's tone. If you're into 80's metal ala' Zakk Wylde look no further. If you want versatility, maybe look elsewhere.
Never had to deal with the manufacturer for support.
