Correct phase misalignment and enhance your PA system's sound with the BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer. This two-channel unit has 1/4" TRS and XLR balanced I/O.

The flagship of BBE's series of Sonic Maximizer rack processors, the easy-to-use BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer adds delay times to lower frequencies on a curve, counteracting the natural phase delay between bass and treble frequencies. As a result, the whole signal reaches your audience at once -- reproducing what's happening on stage with all the brightness and punch that was there to begin with. Simply put, the 882i Sonic Maximizer optimizes your mix for being reproduced through speakers, evening out those phase misalignments between high and low frequencies. And with balanced XLR and TRS I/O and 23 dB of output headroom, this rack processor is built to work with professional PA systems anywhere.

Make The Most of Your PA System

A signal going through a set of speakers suffers as a result of frequency-dependent phase shifting -- a delay in sound reproduction between high and low frequencies. Inductance in the voice coil of a speaker causes the impedance to rise as the frequency does. This results in high frequencies taking longer to hit the listener's ear than low frequencies. This is a real killer when it comes to the attack of instruments like guitar, piano, or bass, and especially for percussive instruments, which live and die by their attack. A sound system suffering from this sounds muffled or muddy. The Sonic Mamximizer counteracts this by adding delay to the lower frequencies on a specific curve, letting the highs come through with proper phase alignement.

Smart EQ for Deeper Lows and Crisper Highs

read more In addition to suffering from frequency-dependent phase-shifting, full-range speakers often reproduce lowest and highest frequencies at a lower efficiency than all the stuff in the middle. This is more or less an accepted fact of most PA speakers -- which is why systems often come with high and low frequency boost switches to alleviate this issue. However, BBE's Sonic Maximizer series augment these frequencies intelligently and in conjunction with their delay curve.

Tough, Professional Build Quality

Designed for professional live sound applications that require high headroom, low noise, and +4 dBu input levels, the stereo/dual mono BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer has 1/4" TRS and XLR balanced I/O, all in a case that's built for extreme strength. The 882i's 1/4-inch-thick extruded alumninum faceplate is bolted to the chassis with hex head bolts, with knurled aluminum knobs mounted directly to the pressed circuit board for ease of control over fine adjustments. It even boasts improved graphics to make it easy to read in dim venues.

BBE 882i Balanced Sonic Maximizer

The BBE 882i is BBE's flagship Sonic Maximizer rack processor. This Sonic Maximizer system features +23 dB of output headroom and balanced inputs and outputs (XLR and TRS). Its compatibility with balanced signals is the key to getting the absolute most out of your PA system.

Sonic Maximizing: How It Works

The BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer adds delay times to lower frequencies on a curve, counteracting the natural phase delay between the bass and treble. This ensures that the whole signal reaches people at once, brightening the tone and giving the signal all the livelihood of what's happening on stage. Additionally, full-range speakers often reproduce lowest and highest frequencies at a lower efficiency than all the stuff in the middle. This is more or less an accepted fact of most PA speakers -- systems often come with high and low frequency boost switches to alleviate this issue. However, BBE's 882i Sonic Maximizer series augment these frequencies intelligently and in conjunction with their delay curve, offering a solid, full-range signal in a single box.

Tough, Professional Build Quality

The 882i unit features dual-mono operation with balanced XLR inputs and outputs. It is designed for applications requiring low noise, high headroom and +4dBu input levels. As the flagship Sonic Maximizer, the BBE 882i was designed to offer far greater strength under demanding applications such as sound reinforcement and touring. It features a 1/4-inch thick extruded aluminum faceplate anchored to the chassis via hex head bolts, and improved graphics which are easier to read in poorly lit environments. Knurled aluminum knobs add ease of control and a more positive feel -- often critical to musicians, live sound mixers and DJs making fine adjustments mid-performance.
