Mapex's Manufacturing Process
Laminated shell plies are molded to shape with technical precision under computer monitored heat and pressure.

After being inspected for surface flaws, shells designated for "Transparent" finishes receive the first of several hand-applied coats of stain. Polished Black and other solid colors also receive several layers of hand-applied opaque finish.

All lacquered shells are cured to exact specifications in Mapex's own computer-controlled microwave process rooms.

Consistently accurate bearing edges are assured from the very beginning with computer-directed, mechanical cutting lathes.

Computer operators guide uniquely designed bearing edge polishing machines and then each shell receives hand buffing and bearing edge treatment.

Each shell receives high-speed application of jewelers rouge and then special hand polishing wheels to bring out the highlights in their hardened finishes.

Final assembly returns to the skilled craftsman for tuning, final adjustment and packing. read less
