ART Pro MPA Microphone Preamp (Model 210)

No longer available at zZounds
Studio Tube Mic Pre. 2-space rack. Huge illuminated VU meters and colored LED panels. 2 independent channels. Phantom power. Phase reversal. Bass roll off. Balanced.

The PRO MPA is one of the finest microphone preamplifiers available. Developed in partnership with studio and live sound engineers, the PRO MPA possesses "the sound." A member of the ART Reference Series, the PRO MPA was designed and constructed with the absolute best components, assuring a lifetime of quiet, reliable performance.

The PRO MPA (Microphone Pre Amplifier) is a multi-purpose tool for audio engineering and recording. Enclosed in a 2U (3.5" high) rack-mountable chassis are 2 independent channels of analog microphone preamplifiers designed to work seamlessly with any recording, sound-reinforcement, or electronic instrument setup. ART's PRO MPA circuitry is a hybrid design utilizing the latest and most advanced solid state and tube technology. Using a transformerless design throughout, the PRO MPA maintains exceptional signal integrity and extremely low noise. The Active balanced input utilizes a hybrid, triple-differential transistor design, providing extremely low noise and excellent CMRR.

A second stage 12AX7A tube running on a regulated DC voltage provides an additional 40 dB of gain. The design causes the tube to overload before the input or output stage. This allows the user to manipulate the tube gain to meet their sonic requirements. The 1/4" input has a high impedance, which prevents the loading of any device connected to it and makes the PRO MPA perfect for DI or line level applications.

Each channel of the PRO MPA features independent input and output read more level controls and a variable high pass filter. Because of the filter design, the high pass circuitry allows the user to gently remove unwanted rumble and low frequency information without changing the overall sonic character of the input signal. Additional features include: +20dB gain, phantom power, and phase reversal switches with LED indicators. Internal power supply, balanced and unbalanced connectionsm and a full 5-year warranty round out an extremely attractive yet cost effective package.

I think this unit will keep me happy for a long time.
Sound
The sound is great. I don't feel that there is much coloration in the tube sound. But there is a bit. However, I love it. It is a great preamp and well worth the money. It is great for mastering as well.
Features
It has normal pre settings. Gain, Output. A very nice roll of, 7 to 175 hz I think it was, but that is a very nice feature. And a nice instant 20db gain with the push of one button. Great.
Quality
It is well made, but I would not bring it on the road per-say, but it is well made for studio use.
Value
It is worth the price and compared other items it will hold it's own.
The Wow Factor
I will buy more when I get the money.
