I play acoustic guitar for a living in the Florida Keys. I have a couple Taylors, a Breedlove and several other quality guitars. I bought this because I wanted a guitar for beach gigs and other rough environments that didn't cost alot, but played and sounded good. What I didn't realize at the time was that this guitar would give my instruments that cost MUCH more a real run for their money. The onboard electronics are the best I've ever used. It's become my primary gig guitar, I play it onstage 5-6 shows a week

I played a Martin d18 for a few years, then one night it was stolen. I only had around a grand to spend, did a google search, landed here, read the reviews, bought the A3R.. It got to me next day! So when I opened it, the first things I noticed were, the finish is perfect, zero flaws, the bag was nice, then, I tuned it up... What I heard before I plugged it in BLEW my mind! this is without a doubt a guitar im gonna hold on to forever! Clear mids, clear lows, clear highs, low action is perfect, neck feel great, and the best part, it sounds better than my martin ever did! actually for the price, what you get, is a guitar that should cost WAY more! Your not gonna regret buying this guitar! SO at the time of this review, ive purchased, because of the A3R, another A3R, and A3M, and an AC3R. ive become a Yamaha lifer with just one purchase!

Came very well packaged . It stood up to all the positive reviews on youtube! The finish is perfect and sound is fantastic , frets and neck feel great this instrument is comparable to any high end I have ever played ,a nice case included and Elixor strings give it sustain and ring forever . The pickup system is very very good , best I have heard on any acoustic . Thank you zZounds and Yamaha for this superb instrument !!

I pride myself on finding top of the line acoustic electrics that are priced at half their competitors. My Seagull Maritime Rosewood SWS is easily worth twice what it costs. My Seagull 12 String sounds like a stringed piano! But... the A3r exceeded all my expectations for less than my Seagull Maritime costs. I would estimate this guitar sounds equitable to a Taylor that costs three times as much. Many of the reviews focus on the incredible preamp system, and indeed, it is the best I own, and very much simulates an open mike amplification. But, the sound of the guitar was absolutely incredible and NO guitar I own (all under 1 grand) comes even close. Bottom line: the A3R is the best kept secret in the music business and completely under the average musicians radar. Don't believe me? Go to a music store and check it out. And... Thank you zZounds for some of the best zero percent interest on the market. It is why I chose your company!

I bought one of these after looking and playing everything around a grand! $1000.00 and it sounded better and had a better preamp than the rest ! this has the build and finish of a martin costing three times as much. very nice guitar, plays smooth and comes set up ready to play!! p.s. change the strings!!

I've been playing and writing songs on an amateur level for 20+ years, but have just gotten serious about booking gigs and making music professionally. I've had a Simon & Patrick S&P6 for those 20 years, and have enjoyed it very much, but I was looking to upgrade to something better. The A3R is amazing in every way. Beautiful to look at, easy to play, a great acoustic sound (I love solid rosewood!), and a best-in-class plugged-in sound thanks to the excellent pre-amp. It's light, loud, shimmery, and does a nice job of getting and staying in tune. It reminds me of the $1,500 Yairi down at the local guitar shop. This is absolutely a pro-caliber gigging guitar. I highly recommend it!Mine came with an unintended factory blemish. I contacted support and sent them pics, and they offered a small discount, which I accepted. No complaints on my end--those things happen, and their support was pleasant. They also offered me the option of returning it for a refund or exchange, but this is the best sounding guitar I've ever played (which is what really matters most), so I didn't want to risk sending it back and hoping the next one would sound as good.I'm very pleased with the guitar and with zZounds.

The A3r is a great guitar. it resonates for a long time after you pluck or strum, and rings well with the elixer strings stock on the 2017 model, which i received today. i have no complaints, but if it had a bone nut and saddle i would love it even more! it is fine with the urea nut and saddle as well. it stands with the big name guitars...easily. i have owned many guitars...this is my favorite of all time. Yamaha did a fine job on this guitar in the A series. You will be impressed with the sold tone woods..thanks zZounds.

This guitar is nothing short of extraordinary. If you are looking for a guitar and desire more "bang for your buck"....this is the guitar for you. Solid rosewood back and sides, low action out of the box, looks fantastic, electric, comfortable neck and a sound that is amazing compared to the previous Yamaha products from the past. I've owned a Martin, Cole Clark, Taylor, Yamaha, and a Guild. For the $$$$ this guitar is as close to the higher end above guitars without the $2K plus price. Not the boom of a Martin or Cole Clark and doesn't have the brightness of a Taylor (which I don't care for at all btw) but it's damn close! Love this guitar. Perfectly priced for the playability and performance that I need at this stage of playing.

Musical Background:

self taught but have worked with some teachers in the past. I play for personal enjoyment and for friends.

I'm used to a OLD Martin, and several electrics, when playing this for first time, FULL of bad notes, Caused by me of course, but due to such wide string spacing, and I'm a finger picker. But, string spacing is wide enough that my finger memory causes me to have to slow down, to get my left hand in correct place on fingerboard. And, I'm not going to try to waste the money it would cost to have someone do a really pro setup on this thing. So, has to go. But sound is good, electronics are good, For a beginner, or low time player, probably a great guitar, just that this old man, does NOT feel like spending the time with it, to get muscle memory in fingers to the point that it is playable. I'll stay with the Martin. Just intended to use this for something to write music on, sort of a Beater that I did not have to be so careful of.
