"A second generation T60 from VOX"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Like I said, this T60 is a 'keeper'. If it were stolen or destroyed, I would replace it with another exactly like it. The only change I could recommend would be the option of a 15" speaker, but the external jack may make that unnecessary. The T60 won't scream like an AC30 but it's not designed to. It's portability makes it a versatile player, whether I'm playing bass or my 12-string AE dreadnaught.
Sound
KORG got this right and she's a keeper. Closest thing to the T60 is a bass amp with twice as many speakers and twice its size (with twice the weight). The 12" speaker is perfectly mated with the HF horn for wonderful lows and strong mids. My FENDER Jazz MIM 5-string will often challenge it @ 30 - 40 Hz, but I have never been disappointed with its performance. The 4-band equalizer and 'Bassilator' circuit offer a wide range of tones, whether I'm playing bass or using my 12-string AE through it. The 60-watts tend to be a little small for big (outdoor) venues, but plugging my VOX Foundation Bass cab (from NCM) with it's Celestion 18" into it puts that concern to rest.
Features
The 'Active' and 'Passive' inputs are a nice option but take a little trial-and-error to get used to. The 4-band equalizer and 'Bassilator' circuit offer great flexibility to this medium-size amp. A headphones jack is nice but I really like (and use) the external speaker jack. Corner protectors would have been a nice addition, 'cuz the tolex is thin and exposed. An investment in a cover is manditory.
Ease of Use
This amp is a lot easier to use than the current VOX 'modeling amps'. It's designed to be 'plug-n-play without a lot devotion to the manual. And, having the manual on the VOX website as a free download was a capital idea.
Quality
Excellent modern VOX solid-state quality. Like I said, the tolex is a bit thin and corner protectors would be a great addition, but overall a very dependable amp.
Value
Lots of good, medium-size bass amps out there that cost more but VOX produced an excellent product for this market. Resale value of good, used examples of the T60 almost equal their original retail price. Let's hope their replacement to the T60 will be as good.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't needed to contact VOX on my T60, but I have with a couple of their other products. Their website is easy to maneuver around in and my local franchise dealer has been very responsive. VOX support is only a telephone call away and I have never been disappointed.
The Wow Factor
Only VOX amps look only like VOX amps! The T60 tells even the most casual observer that she's a VOX.
