This well-made pedal provides a very dynamic, articulate type of classic rock distortion. Every note in a chord and nuance of playing remains intact. Although the name "Dark Matter" might suggest extreme metal madness, the gain knob has a useful range from bluesy crunch through more classic metal tone. Separate bass and treble controls are a nice touch, and an additional voicing switch provides either classic low-mid emphasis (for thick, warm sound) or high-mid emphasis (for certain recording applications, solos where cut-through is key. It sounds phenomenal with my SG, and by turning back the guitar's volume knobs even more sounds are possible. The only things the Dark Matter can't do, at least without another gain stage, is ridiculous extreme distortion, octave effects, or raunchy fuzz.
