"Best Bang for the Buck! Just take the time to read the manuals or watch the videos. It really works great as a one-man-band's mu"

I expect to be satisfied with it for a long time. If I was going to replace it, it would be with another Roland product such as the 2480HD
Sound
I've read some of the poor reviews on this page. Seems that there are a lot of unhappy folks out there that probably just don't know what they are doing. This is a great machine, you just need patience. I use Memorex High Speed CD-RW's and they work great. They are sold at Circuit City. It's possible that they are attempting to use normal CD-RW's. If you really get into the EQ's you can get some great sound. Be sure to EQ your effects in the "EDIT" section too!
Features
I love the on-board effects and find them to be quite simple to use. I do wish the unit had the option of recording to a hard drive. The machine is also a bit slow at locating on the CD-RW.
Quality
Great quality and durability. The stainless steel front plate tarnishes easily, but who cares?
Value
This product is the best value for the money I have ever seen.

The Wow Factor
I was intrigued by the magazine articles I had read about the product so I yearned for a year and then my wife surprised me with one! I talked my buddy into buying one too and he says it's the best investment he has ever made!

"The absolute truth."

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Not to long, because if you buy a recorder you expect to record, and the cdx-1 is to UNreliable to spend any money on.
Sound
The sound quality is great.
Features
The roland can't record to a hard disk, which s@@ks because the high-speed cd-rw's rarely work for more than a week, if ever. The sampler can do just about anything, and it's easy to use.
Quality
The cdx-1 is made well, but is very unreliable when it comes to recording.
Value
I don't know how other removable media recorders work, but the cdx-1 isn't worth the money.
Manufacturer Support
Roland is easy to reach, but can't answer questions effectively.
The Wow Factor
The machine looks real good.

I wish I would of known how SLOW this thing is and how hard it is to find the right CDRW's for recording on it. It's just so slow when it comes to recording. Mine is broken after only 7 years and it cost almost 700$ to fix it.

"dont buy this unless you want to kill yourself"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
ive recorded records and live sessions but i couldve done that with something FAR cheaper than this
Sound
ok, if youre new to recording, do not use this. even if you know some basics. because no matter what you think you recorded, it never sounds the same! even if you play the final cd back on the cdx-1 using the same speakers! whats the point?
Features
ok, the effects are cool and useful, editable. nice delay and reverb for inputs while you record. the effects have a strange feel to them that i dont see every day
Ease of Use
very easy, its just that it takes FOREVER to do anything, and you can add the extra ramm for samples but everytime you turn it on you have to go in and have it find the added memory, which takes like 20 minutes! by the time its ready to go you dont even feel like doing music anymore
Quality
unless you got this for $400 and didnt buy it new when it came out for $1600 like i did, you will cry yourself to sleep because it is the most useless piece of junk for doing some serious multitracking music... maybe a rock band this is ok but if you want to do anything that requires more than the most basic song structure, just spend your money on something else. or just use ableton live with an audio I/O and forget the hardware for recording
Value
id rather have bought a 4track cassette recorder, atleast it wouldve felt experimental on purpose.
Manufacturer Support
they laughed when i mentioned CDX-1 and said there is nothing they can do about it. they dont even take this thing seriously, and it mind as well be a door stop unless i want to record live sessions straight to cd-r
The Wow Factor
there is no "sex appeal" when you cant get it to work...
