The Mother 32 is the ultimate gateway synth. It’s not the easiest thing to use (especially if you are new to synthesis) but with the tiniest bit of effort you can get some very classic mono synth sounds without touching the patch bay. Then, once you feel like you have mastered the basic controls, the world completely opens up with the patch bay. People that say “everything sounds samey” are lacking in creativity. Sure you only have square and triangle LFO waveshapes, but patch the envelope generator into the LFO rate (with triangle wave selected) and you have a shark fin! Sure there is only one oscillator, but patch the other wave into the external audio input and blend those shapes baby. Or do that with any other audio! The secret weapon is the assignable jack....have fun with that one! And the sequencer too... don’t get me started. It’s a blast!

I am very glad we ordered a second Moog mother 32, together they make a massive amount of awesome sound. I am trying not to want three...at any rate having two is an amazing amount of fun patching back and forth and with other gear that uses CV, gate etc. If you have any doubts about how these sound, listen a while on youtube.

"Big sound from a little Mother 32"

I know, I know, only a single oscillator , no built in effects and mono out. Don't care, I just don't mind at all. For about 50k I could have a monster Moog like I used to play back in the day, until then this is quite a useful machine. The knobs are fun to use, like a Cadillac on a Volkswagen budget, and the sound is full on Moog. The MIDI -CV converter is useful and the sequencer is too, it has an appeal that is hard to describe. This is like a brick while the giant modular is a wall, stack some of these bricks and make your own wall. I intend to make a pyramid with my midi gear and this will be in it, count on it. Did I mention the sound? Bob Moog would be proud of this mini mother.

My studio is packed full of computers and electronic instruments, and as soon as I plugged the Mother-32 in, the sound of it made me want to sell everything in my studio. The sound of this thing is amazing. Buy 2 of them and you'll be in analog heaven.
