"Moog EP2 attenuator control..."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Just purchased one of these as it looked like a cheaper alternative to a Roland EV5 pedal. The quality of the pedal seems good but unfortunately it's not very useful to me as the attenuator control knob on the side has a strange function - it allows you to set the maximum output as being less than 100%, rather than the minimum being more then zero like the EV5.I wanted to use the pedal for volume/swell, but since when I'm gigging I normally want use max volume and sometimes want to go a little bit lower, it's much more useful to have a control to set the minimum value higher than zero and keep your maximum. So I've sadly had to send the Moog EP2 back for a refund and will probably end up getting a second Roland EV5 - I'll have to put some coloured tape on one of them so avoid confusion!I guess the Moog pedal probably has some useful functions for synth controls etc but just beware it's not an ideal volume pedal...

"Moog, how could you put your name on this pedal? Seek another Expression Pedal."

If I wasn't handy with a soldering iron and powertools, I would have replaced these with another pedal, like the Rocktron. It's worth paying nearly twice the money to get something that will last four times as long.
Sound
n/a it makes no sound.
Features
well, the internal circuitry is OK. What kills me is the cheap molded plastic and the hard-wired, cheap 1/4 cable that is attached to this expression pedal. We've had two of the pedals fail because the solder joint inside the 1/4 jack broke. Replacing the cable on this unit is a pain because you have to open up the pedal and hard-wire a new replacement cable. I ended up installing a 1/4" TRS jack in to the front of the pedal so we could just swap cables as needed. I am shocked that Moog would put out such a shoddy pedal with their name all over it.
Ease of Use
works fine until the cable breaks and you have to take the whole pedal apart to replace the cable.
Quality
For the price, and the name Moog, you'd expect a bit more than cheap plastic and a hard-wired cable. As stated above, I modded our pedals to have 1/4" jacks for easy cable replacement. These pedals do not stand up well to the rigors of a touring band!
Value
not worth it. After the time wasted modding these pedals I'd go for the much better built Rocktron expression pedal.
Manufacturer Support
didn't use it.
The Wow Factor
looks kinda cool I guess. It has Moog on it, so it must be cool, right?
