"The Gibson Firebird Zebrawood is not just another bird knockoff by Gibson. It is a truly unique version of the guitar Gibson has"

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I play professionally and have been doing so since the firebird first came out in 63. I expect I'll be playing this bird along with my other firebirds. Doubt that I would buy other models. It's always been firebirds for me.
Sound
I own 9 original reverse Firebirds from 63-65 period and I rate this new Zebrawood model as coming very close to those original pickups in the other guitars. I would say the sound of the zebrawood is 90 percent or better to the original magnetic mini humbuckers.
Features
I like the detail Gibson has given on this bird to the originals. Top hat knobs are same as originals. All the hardware is authentic except for chrome pickups and bridge compared to nickel on the originals but a small matter on a work horse guitar like this
Ease of Use
Guitar is a smoker, very easy to play, even easier than the original birds because of the oiled neck with no varnish. A very fast neck with a precision for the fastest of lead players
Quality
Quality is supreme on this instrument. Better than the original firebirds. Destined to be one of the modern classics
Value
This firebird is worth more than its selling price. It will show in the future that the selling price was very small compared to what this limited edition of 400 will be selling for ten years from now. It is one of the first unique firebirds made by gibson in years. It is not just another knock off of the originals.
Manufacturer Support
Don't really know, nothing has gone wrong with the guitar
The Wow Factor
Sex appeal is tops. It is a real attention getter and a great playing guitar to boot

"love at first sight"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Im a guitarist so Im always looking at other guitars but I dont think I will ever be dis-satisfied with this guitar. It has the best tone Ive ever heard. If I bought another guitar its not becuse I dont like this one anymore.
Sound
with the stock bridge pickup the output is a little low. not enough low end. after switching that out with a dimarzio hot mini the low end comes out swinging and the mids and highs are still there to be heard.
Features
the tuners are the greatest thing since sliced bread. they look cool and they hold a tune. the zebrawood wings are amazing. there is a tone difference there from mohagony to be heard. and this wood looks absolutly stunning. they top hat knobs look nice but I switched them out with knurled chrome knobs for the extra grip.
Ease of Use
with a heavier gauge of strings on the playability is top notch. the action is fast and low. the vol. and tone knobs are easy to reach. but with the size of the head stock it is a little neck heavy. but the raw unfinished neck is so smooth and easy to play and slide around on.
Quality
the quality and workmanship are top notch. there is no finish. no clear coat... just an oil from the factory. and because there is no finish you do have to take care of it. meaning you have to oil the neck and body. as fas as road worthy., I gig with is. it has become my main guitar. keep it in its case when on the road, and dont throw it around.
Value
for the quality instrument you get its worth every penny. Id buy another firebird over another les paul.
Manufacturer Support
I baught it locally. so the support here was great.
