"nice features, great, twangy tone "

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Delivery went well. The setup was fine. Good intonation. The Swingster has a full tone, and it can sound almost as though you're playing a slide. It is distinctive in a good way. I have played it continuously. The bigsby is easy to use, the series/parallel switch feature lends versatility, the tuners are great. Epiphone did well, except for the nut, which is a shiny white, cheap plastic thing. Why did they do that, given the other fine features? I replaced it immediately with a bone nut. The pickups are fine, and I'm not replacing them. While it would be nice to have trestle bracing on the inside (lik a setzer gretsch), it is a fine, affordable option. I'm content with this guitar.

I was looking at the orange version of the Epi Swingster and stumbled on the Black Royale from zZounds. It was listed as blemished and priced at $544. I read the "blemished" description and decided to take a chance. If it was really messed up, I'd return it and get the orange one. The Black Royale was so much more elegant than the orange and wine red version. I couldn't pass it up. It arrived and I immediately inspected it. First thing I noticed was the bridge was knocked off and on its side under the strings, second was the tremolo bar which was extremely loose and wouldn't stay in place. The last was the Epiphone E logo on the pick guard, it was just a little loose. I was going to change strings anyway, so when I got the old ones off, I re installed the bridge and flipped up the Bigsby and tightened the tremolo. Got the new strings on, and tuned it up. The only blemishes now are two tiny scratches just behind the bridge, which are almost invisible unless you know to look for them and then they might show up if the light reflects right. Next I popped off the E logo, added a tiny amount of gel super glue, re attached carefully with tweezers. Now this thing is beautiful, plays with wonderful tone and couldn't be more dazzling! With a little work it was well worth taking the chance on the blemished axe. Especially considering how hard they are to come by.

I play professionally in a touring rockabilly combo and I own two of these bad boys. No mods needed, Epiphone nails it right out of the box. Rockabilly heaven!

I was super excited to get this guitar. Once it got here I was a bit disappointed though. Not in zZounds, they were amazing as always, but in the instrument itself. When I unboxed it the input jack had come unscrewed and had fallen inside the guitar. After fishing for a few minutes I was able to get it back on. Then the very next day I started playing and the input nut fell off again. Then the Bigsby arm came loose and I had to change strings to get it back on. The case that goes with it (according to Epiphone) doesn't work so well. It seems to put pressure on one side of the Bigsby bridge (no matter how you set the swing arm). Then after trying to set up the neck and string height I found out that the nut slot for the D string was cut too deep and the nut would have to be replaced to fix it. I give this guitar a bad review but not zZounds. They were super fast on getting the situation handled. One good thing about this guitar is the tone, it screams and works very well with effect pedals.

This thing feels great, looks great, sounds great....I LOVE IT! Plugged in, it's a machine capable of any genre...unplugged is a treat when it's late at night and the kiddos are asleep where my Ovation was too loud. I had a custom Epi LP when I was a kid and this thing took me back in time, the neck felt exactly the way my old guitar felt 20+ years ago!
