I put this same review on the Epi site. First, thanks zZounds for being zZounds. This guitar is truly Epic! I used an early 70's Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in the 80's as my main axe. I loved the slim taper neck profile. From the late 90's to now I have not been able to find a Les Paul style guitar that appealed to me, always something wrong in the design. I tried one of these at a store, and was impressed. So I ordered one, and was shocked at what a great quality axe it is, great out of the box. The inspection and set up was perfect. Of course I had to set it up my way which usually takes 10 or more hours, this only took a couple of hours. The neck profile thickness was spot on to the Deluxe's 60's slim taper d style neck. And, I believe the width is ever so slightly wider, I mean by 1.2mm perhaps, which is something I had always wanted as the original slim tapers were just a tiny bit too narrow. Please, please, do not change one thing about the specs on this guitar, please, keep it exactly as it is. You've got a true classic winner on your hands. It's a way better axe than most similar guitars costing thousands more. The materials and quality control are excellent for the price point. Thank you for making me happy!!! I feel like I've been reunited with a long lost friend. PS, I find I am using it more often in single coil mode than humbucker, which is great. Super versatility. The pickups are really good! The Pau Ferro is fine. It's awesome! Got the green by #6 ;) Send this up the line. You are truly awesome! Epiphone China/USA is making these guitars properly!! I'm sort of in shock by this, no kidding. They've really stepped up. Thank you!!

Received it as promised Christmas Eve. Examined it for flaws and found none. Tuned it up, checked action and inotation, all great. Plays great, sounds sweet, and looks like a Les Paul should.
Sound
The sound is pure Les Paul. The pick-ups are hot and the combination of coil splitting adds to various tones.
Features
Coil splitting is nice although I have a Strat for single coil playing.
Ease of Use
Just plug in, dial it in and you are off to the races sound wise.
Quality
I can pass it on to my son in 20 years looking like it does now.
Value
Yes
The Wow Factor
Appearance, play ability, sounds are all wow.

Great great guitar, beautiful work of art, Pro-humbuckers are powerful. This guitar turns heads!! Someone complained about this model in an earlier review, if there are problems........send it back! I know from experience that zZounds backs up their service with a simple call to one of their Reps. My step son purchased a Les Paul Standard that was obviously dropped while in shipping. Guess what, his new guitar was on it's way as soon as zZounds was alerted of the return package. Sorry to all others............ zZounds has the best sales plans, service, satisfaction!! Thanks to Matt and all, there in the Windy City. A very courteous and attentive staff.

Stunning that this thing showed up needing only my brand of strings (cleartone 10-46), Strap put on then plugged in to my Orange and Blackstar tandem... Massive classic rock tone! The pro bucker 3's will push some serious tone through a good tube amp! The only thing I may end up doing is installing some 50's style wiring with some nice pots and caps... the only reason for this install is... this guitar is worthy of that kind of upgrade! I got this guitar because it was such a good deal I figured if I didn't like it , I could easily get my money back. I've been playing on and working on guitars for nearly 26 years now. I usually do my own set ups, fret dressing and any kind of wiring upgrades on any of my guitars. I've been a Gibson fan for years and I have owned a LOT of guitars in all my years of playing. Blues is where I started, classic rock is the style I enjoy most but I've played everything from metal to country. I currently play in a working band and everyone that hears me plays this guitar agrees.... It's got a fabulous tone!!! Epiphone now has my attention... still in shock that the setup on this guitar was so dead on and.... it plays soooo well!!!!

I played several guitars at my local dealer and chose the Epi because of its playability and tone controls. The coil taps add a whole new aspect to the versatility of this guitar. The guitar screams quality! Grover keys at 14:1 so no need to change, the finish is beautiful and flawless. The pickups can go from smooth warm tones to ear piercing Dimebag squeals. Strings seem decent but I will change to my Hybrids. We all have our personal preference. Setup was excellent right out of the box. Action is great and intonation was right on. Overall this is a great guitar for a great price. I ordered it on a Thursday and had it in my hands on Saturday, with free shipping! I also ordered the Epi case and it too is excellent. I chose the 8 payment deal with no issue with financing even though my credit is far from excellent. Don't be scared to see if you qualify. The staff at zZounds were extremely helpful each time I called, which was more than a few. Very knowledgeable and courteous and that's why I chose to buy from them. I love my new Les Paul and will definitely continue to do business with my new music store.

Being on disability in a wheelchair and unable to work for the last 25 years my credit history is basically non-existent. No other company would extend me the credit but zZounds did. I am 67 years old and have played professionally since I was 13. Over the years I have owned many guitars, everything from Gibson ES 335's to Les Pauls. Fender Jags, Strats, and many more. I actually have a Fender Tele Elite which I love. I ordered a couple months back , this Epi, Standered Pro. Now I have owned a couple different Epiphones in the past. I have to say, this guitar is beyond my wildest dreams for quaility build, tone and just overall wow factor. Epiphone has stepped up to the pump as we use to say. I would have this over any Gibson. I am proud to say I own a Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro.

Pictures alone do not do justice to the beautiful Honeyburst finish of the Les Paul, this guitar looks beautiful front, back and neck. The craftmanship is flawless and solid, has a nice weight, and the hardware is very well made. Epiphone and Gibson don't put their name on junk! The Les Paul name means something! The price is unbeatable, I know, I try to shop all my equipment for the best deals and lets just say in this day and age when it's just hard to get by it's a blessing that Zzounds offer their Play as you pay payment offer! I'm very confident you will be just as impressed as I am with YOUR new Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop Pro!!!

I've had my Plus Top Pro for around 4 years and it has been my #1 the whole time. I find myself here looking for another one to add to the collection. These are solid, well-built guitars. The ProBucker pickups sound fantastic and I have no plans of ever changing them. I use both pickups often during play, to change up dynamics and tone and I get everything I need out of this guitar. I have played this through several different amps and it sounds great through anything. The only thing that has needed fixing is to replace the toggle switch, and that's only because of normal wear. All parts are quality parts. I'll be keeping this guitar for a long time and would even get a refret job done in the future just to keep it going. This is a great guitar for any budget and is easily a professional grade guitar. I better get another before Epiphone ever thinks of discontinuing the model.

Just got this guitar in today - thanks zZounds for the fast shipping as always! Before buying this guitar, I played a few Gibson LPs at a shop, and this one is by far the best for your buck. The hardest decision for me was picking out the right color. The Grover tuners are great, the frets are dressed perfectly, and the out-of-box setup works for me.I play relatively clean stuff, and the Probuckers sound great. Did I mention the Mojave Fade is beautiful?I only have two complaints:1) The strings are garbage - change them immediately.2) The inspection stickers on the back are paper stickers - not vinyl - so when you take them off it leaves that crappy residue.

First, a big thanks to Zzounds for the pay as you play payment plans. Now on to the guitar....this thing is great! After changing the strings to a smooth set of Elixir nano web strings, a nice fretboard conditioning, and resetting the action, this thing plays and sounds amazing. The Probucker pickups have a full, clear, impressive tone that thrive on mids and highs but can be pulled back for that beautiful classic bluesy tone. Its got great sustain that you can feel through the body of the guitar as you play. The maple top looks great. It has a nice, solid feel. Its one of those guitars that will only get better the more you play it. Is it a Gibson standard?...no. However, its just as nice if not better then a Gibson les paul studio. If you're in the market for a les paul and can't afford the 2k price tag, then this beauty is what you want.

The pick ups on the Les Paul are amazing. Bright and warm tones. Wait till you play with the single coils. I love the tapping feature. The change is right there! Never has a Les Paul been so versatile and I really am happy. She has a beautiful finish and great hardware. No I can't afford a Gibson and I don't really need one. The thing is this is not a "copy," it is an Epiphone Les Paul and it stands on it's own! Enjoy!

First of all this guitar sounds professional. The new pickups sound, to me, very similar to the PAF pickups played by many of the legends of classic rock. The coil tapping is a bonus and adds flexibility to this great guitar. The electronics are good quality, much better than the electronics in my old Epi Les Paul. The tone and volume pots have a good usable taper unlike the cheap linear taper pots used on some budget instruments. The Grover tuning machines and the tune-o-matic bridge keep this guitar in tune. The clips on the stop bar make changing strings easy as my old Epi always had me scared that I would drop the stop bar tail piece and scratch the finish. As for the finish, it is top notch. Mine came with beautiful flame figuring in the maple top. The flaming is not fake and has a beautiful depth to it. The heritage cherry sunburst is well done and really make the maple top shine. The fretboard it smooth with well fitted frets. The edges of the frets are finished perfectly and do not have any rough spots. Out of the box the guitar needed no set up as the action, intonation, and pickup height were well within spec, no fret buzz what so ever with enough room to lower the action for those who prefer low action. The only thing I would suggest is at your first string change tape off the fretboard and pickups, keeps the small bits of metal from the steel wool from sticking to the pickups a real pain to remove, and give the frets a quick polish with some ultra fine steel wool as the frets are a bit rough. It only takes a few minutes once the strings are off and the painters tape is in place. You could just play the guitar alot and have the same effect but they are rough enough to require extra effort to bend the strings. If your in the market looking for a beautifully finished Les Paul that has the sound and sustain of guitars costing three times the price you can't go wrong with the Epiphone Les Paul standard plus top PRO with the Probucker pickups.

I've always been a fan of Epiphone. From the first time I saw the Epiphone Les Paul, I knew that was the guitar for me. 13 years later, I finally get the guitar of my dreams, and it's everything I could want and so much more. I got the honeyburst finish and wow, it completely takes my breath away every time I look at it. The neck is one of the most comfortable necks I've ever played on. I own an LTD and a tele and this neck is perfect for what I play. It needed a set up, but once all that was situated this guitar was more than I'd ever expect. I highly recommend zZounds with their payment plan I got the guitar of my dreams.

I just received my Les Paul Standard Plustop Pro in The Green Burst finish today and I couldn't be happier. I wanted the Greenburst because it stands out and catches the eye faster than the standard finishes because it's unusual and new. The fit and finish is near perfect, I couldn't find any flaws in other words. I had to immediately plug it into my 100 watt tube head that's connected to my 4x12 cabinet after a quick tuning. I was expecting a brite tone and was presented with that wonderful vintage Gibson Les Paul deeper tone. Anyone whose played an older Les Paul knows that sound. I was surprised that the Probucker Pickups are that good. I tried out all of the pickup combination settings I could imaged even played with the coil tapping for the single coil sounds but I always managed to go back to the dual Humbuckers. The setup was spot on and required no adjustments. My husband has an Epiphone 1960 Tribute with Gibson Classic 57 Humbuckers and My Les Paul sounds better to me than his. Of course he doesn;t agree but I keep catching him playing mine. Thank You zZounds for making your products affordable for even housewife's just like myself.

I have owned many epiphone and Gibson Les Paul's from the studio, junior, 100, 335s and I like this guitar over all of them. It's beautiful, the pickups have the sound I like ( my biggest complaint about Gibson is their pickups. I have yet to find one worth what they price their guitars out for except the burst bucker pros on the 335) . Anyway I sold all my Gibsons and did a lot of looking and playing and this is the jewel I wound up with. It plays, feels, and sounds better than any Gibson or Epiphone on the market. This will be my " die with" guitar. I have the sunburst and it's a work of art. Epiphone you have reached the pinnacle of the market. Thank you.

I pick up the Honey Burst but the first one fretted out on the first four frets on all strings, I contacted Zzounds and said If I was not happy they were not happy, I got a return slip postage paid to return the guitar as I did, and The replacement was sent to me the day after they got the return, I can not say enough about Zzounds customer service, it's truly top notch.. the first one shipped in 24hrs as did the second one.. The Replacement has better playability and sound, I had to reset the intonation and action as I use 10's and the Guitar comes with 9's, Overall I would say it's a Great Guitar for a Great Price. First let me say the reason I call it my blue dragon is, 1. it's blue, 2. it roars, 3. it's smokin' hot. I love this guitar it sounds great, looks great and plays great. Setup was almost perfect out of the box. I had a little buzzing but a slight adjustment to the neck took care of it. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on this one and the consensus that this was a good bang for the buck was right on target. I got the "transparent blue" model. Well here is the thing. The image on almost all sites I visited, including Epiphone, is the wrong one. The guitar in the video, thanks zZounds, is the correct one. It is a blue sunburst design and it is beautiful. When you see this baby for real you'll agree. I really cannot think of anything bad to say. Oh and zZounds is awesome. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

I bought this in a Vintage Sunburst for my nine-year-old son. I have always Played Gibson Les Paul's, and this is just as nice in quality and sound as the Gibson I own. It was perfectly set up, right out of the box, and did not have an imperfection on it. The finish if beautiful, I am not a big fan of the coil tap features, but my son thinks it is cool. I ordered it on a Tuesday and it was at my front door in Rural Appalachia by Thursday morning, with standard shipping. zZounds is great to deal with. This is the 5th guitar I purchased from then in 2 years, without any issues.

I just received the Epiphone Les Paul yesterday as ordered and its a very good instrument. First off I have been playing for 40 years and have had a large collection of Gibsons Fenders Martins . I had read reviews on Epiphone and looked at the YouTube video of there plant production so wanted to get one . I don't know how they do it mine weighs 8.5 lbs nice color soft burst I know about the laminate flame but it looks great and the action was perfect . I wanted something that I could bring to a club and not worry about , ever try playing a mint 58 dot knock with friends and always worry if someone is going to ding it ? This is a fun guitar great work

I got this guitar on a whim; I'm usually against buying guitars online because no two guitars in this world are exactly identical and when you might play one of these at the store and it feels great and perfect, then you might go to another store and play one and it just doesn't feel or sound the same and you wouldn't get it. But after reading all the reviews on the website and more, I decided that this is worth the risk and I bought it. In two days it was here with no extra cost! I opened the box up and pulled my transparent blue Les Paul Standard Plus Pro out and the first thing I noticed was how beautiful it was and when I picked it up, I joked to my girlfriend that it's got some weight to it! Maybe it's just in my head, but weightier guitars always just sound better, they just sound fuller. I fiddled around unplugged and the action out of the box was phenomenal and the intonation sounded pretty accurate with zero dead frets and also the dang thing was practically in tune after being shipped. I plugged her in and she sounded great. Coil tapping was a very nice addition; so many tonal options. When you strum a full chord, every note rings out beautifully. Plus, it was stock with Grover tuners, which saved me from having to buy a set myself. The only thing I suggest is to change the strings immediately. They sounded cheap and within an hour of testing the Les Paul out in recording, my high E broke. I put some 10's on there, fine-tuned the intonation, and now I feel ready to take her on stage as my main and not give the sound guy a headache. All-in-all, this is a great sounding, looking, and feeling guitar and as much as I've read, "But it's not a Gibson," which I agree with, I will tell you that Epiphone has stepped it up big time with this guitar and really surpassed my expectations. So it all boils down to this: Do you want a professional sound Gibson, or do you want a professional sounding Epiphone for a fraction of the price? You decide.

"Great Sound, Great Feel, Great Looks, Great Value"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Quite impressed with this guitar. First the sound of it is fantastic, all the characteristic Les Paul thickness, clarity and midrange bark and bite are there. The pickups sound very good, perhaps a little less articulate than some, but nothing to complain about. Overall very responsive to playing dynamics. The addition of the push/pull coil splitting pots for each pickup adds tremendous versatility of available tonal choicesThe neck and action feel great, was well setup out of the box, no fret issues or buzzing, plays very well. And lastly it looks totally fly. The visible part of the top is just a veneer but the flame maple grain looks amazing. No defects in appearance or workmanship anywhere that I can seeThe only negative is that it has some of the same tuning issues common to Les Pauls (Epiphone or Gibson), the G and B string tend to get caught in the nut and go flat with a lot of heavy bending.I do a lot of heavy bending, so it's a problem that I'll have to address with a tech, but certainly not a dealbreaker. I have to tune a little more often and it's a bit more of a hassle to tune (sometimes) than with my Fenders. However, it's still a great value at this price point and I'm still quite happy with this purchase overall, and I wouldn't (and don't) hesitate to take it to gigs and recording sessions.

I have owned this Standard Pro for a few months now. And I have to say I am very impressed. This guitar has great sustain and has a phenomenal low-end to it. It is the best deal you will find for a guitar under $500 I can guarantee that. I also love the coil-taps and the humbucker tuners, I think they are great features. Not to leave out the Grover Tuners - they are great as well. They look great and they hold tune forever. I only have had to tune this guitar once in the 2 months I've had it. Awesome guitar - definitely recommend it to everyone.

Bought the heritage cherry burst a few months ago. I always take any new guitar for a setup and they were able to bring the action and intonation to where I wanted it. No need to pay thousands for a Gibson. Have played both and can't tell the difference. I may be going overboard but I'm giving my acoustic-electric to my son because I'll never play anything else.

I bought the Bourbon Burst color, sight unseen. I was afraid that I would receive a guitar that had a plain, ugly top. To my surprise, I received a guitar that has an absolutely gorgeous flamed top with tiger stipes on the left & right. It sounds very good, but I plan to upgrade the pots anyway. For the price, this is a VERY nice guitar. I love to just LOOK at it, LOL.

Just received my Honey Burst Les Paul and it is a beautiful guitar. Set up perfectly and ready to go as soon as I got it tuned. My only complaint and it's minor, is that the frets protrude a tiny bit at the bottom of the frets. It doesn't affect the playability at all and the only reason I noticed it was taking it out of the box. I was happy the way it was shipped. I have never bought a guitar sight unseen. It was in the Epiphone box which isn't really a good shipping box. It was then put in a cardboard box. Arrived in 2 days as promised in good shape. I didn't want it sitting around for the normal 3-5 day shipping. This is the fifth guitar in my "collection" a Sheraton II, Fender Strat, Squire '50's Vibe Strat and a Washburn acoustic. I believe I'm now done buying guitars. I don't think you can go wrong on purchasing this from ZZounds.

This epiphone standard plus top pro is a great buy. I didn't know it when I ordered it but it has the coil tapping which is pretty sweet, the HoneyBurst top is quite beautiful to say the least. It sounds great I'm going to need to lower the action, it comes a little high for my taste but thats an easy fix. In short give it a try its a great les paul.

I've wanted a Les Paul for a while, and like the majority of people today, I didn't have money sitting around to buy a Gibson Les Paul. I was also looking for a guitar for a Jazz group that I play in, and a guitar/ wind instrument combo I play in. I went over to my local guitar shop, and the dealer said to me "If you are going to buy an Epiphone Les Paul, do it right and go for the PlusTop Pro, it is the biggest bang for your buck." I bought this guitar from zZounds, along with a Fender Mustang Amp, and the combination of the two sound great. I've been playing this guitar for a few days now, and I absolutely love it. This guitar looks stunning, and I would highly recommend going to a guitar shop or visiting a friend who has this guitar so you can see how good it looks (not Gibson good, but it is pretty darn good). I put a new set of Gibson strings on it, and it still sounds amazing. Before purchasing this guitar, I played a modified version of this guitar which had the pickups replaced with Gibson pickups, and it sounded even better.Overall, this guitar, looks and sounds amazing. Being a experienced guitar playing hobbyist with almost 7 years of playing under my belt, I can confidentially say that this is the best guitar you will get for this price range.

This is my first Epiphone Les Paul,I have owned American made Teles ,Strats, and a Gibson Les Paul Studio.Number one,the finish is superb,I purchased the Trans Blue and couldn't be happier once it arrived.I was concerned when I placed the order whether or not to get the Vintage Sunburst or the Cherryburst and decided on the TransBlue when I noticed everyone playing the same colors so I had to be a little different.I plugged it up,did a little tuning, wham, sounded brighter than my Gibson Les Paul Studio. The action was good right out of the box,no buzz, the finger board is straight, frets are good.I think I made a good purchase and Epiphone makes a very nice guitar. Many Thanks to ZZSOUNDS,their shipping department is top notch as well as their Service and Sales. This looks to be the start of a long relationship.

Got the guitar and had a set up done. I'm not sure it needed it but it did have the factory light strings. The guitar seems to be well made and performs as advertised. I was skeptical about the coil switching feature but it's for real. you can go old school with the single coils or crank with the humbuckers. Fit and finish are good and it has that beefy les paul feel. All in all a good deal if you're on a budget

I was so pleased with my first one, the decision to get another was a no-brainer. This time I got the green burst and the instrument is set up perfect right out of the box just like my first one. Craftsmanship, quality, fit, finish, hardware, playability and electronics are perfect. I can't say enough about these guitars. Sustain on these guitars is amazing! They are absolutely as good as a Gibson, don't waste your money! Made in USA no longer means anything but a lot more money to pay fat and lazy union workers who care for nothing except cashing their big fat paycheck. I will NEVER again buy an American made Gibson OR Fender. They're not any better! Also, for those unlucky few who get a bad one, zZounds will be happy to send you another. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The idiots who post bad reviews have no excuse. zZounds will absolutely ensure you are happy by sending you another guitar; and another; and another, etc., if that's what it takes, or refund you 100%.Guy G. I tell you what, I was give a washburn guitar from a girl as a starter, then upgraded to a Les Paul 100, which made some difference especially when I upgraded from a Line6 SpiderIV amp to a Marshall AVT50 Amp. The Amps always make a big difference. So, when I upgraded my guitar from the 100 to this Standard, Holy Heck, the wood must make a huge difference, because I get a very nice Bite to my sound, good old Guns N Roses or if you like Led Zepplin. WOW! I just got it recently so not sure about the quality, but is seems very well built, I highly recommend this Guitar.

I was told that the first thing a student new to the guitar should do is buy an instrument that he or she feels connected to. The Epiphone version of the Les Paul does just that. It is like Conan with his sword or Matt Dillion with his six shooters, I am happy with it in every way. However as a new student, I am probably not the one to ask about sound and features just yet. If you have a love of music as a passion for the guitar, I recommend that you start with an instrument that brings you joy. I am in love with my Epiphone Les Paul so it works for me.

For 600 bucks your not gona beat it when it to les pauls. Ive tried buying cheaper ones and modding them but you end up with way more money into them then you will ever get out ever trust me im stuck with 2 guitars i have over 800 bucks in that i could only sell for around 300. Its not gona be a collectors item anytime soon but if you want a rock solid les paul then go ahead and buy one of these to be honest ive played gibsons that are 6x the price and the only difference is the feel of them. And after you play the epi for awhile it will feel the same way the new pickups in epiphones are really good to my ears i have a set of sd hot rodded humbuckers i got to put in it and just went back to the epiphones they will for 100% sure need a total setup but i do my own and if you plan on playing you better learn to do it yourself unless you have $50 to just give away for somebody to turn your trus rod a quarter turn and set the action and intonation and the 50 was just to do the trus rod its about 125 to 150 for the whole thing so long story short your not gona get anything better for the price if your lookin for a real les paul

Granted she's no Gibson, but for what she cost she plays darn good! I really like the new humbuckers over years past as I have a few Epi Customs and another Standard as well as a Zakk edition, but never cared for the pups. Although I am not a fan of the new coil taps, they still can give off a wide variety of great sounds from just one guitar. All in all, this guitar feels allot better in hand over my 2 Epi Customs. But I still prefer the Duncan Blackouts I have installed in them over these. Great guitar, great price!

I ordered this guitar in Heritage Cherry Sunburst for my son's 15th birthday, taking advantage of zZounds 8 payment plan. I also ordered the Epiphone hard shell case to go with it. Let me say that this is one beautiful guitar, The flame maple top is beautiful. The fit and finish of the guitar was flawless with the exception of a couple of tiny whitish spots (wouldn't see them unless you were looking for them) near the lower strap pin. The guitar sounds great as well. The value for the price that this guitar offers is exceptional. And best of all, old Dad is numero uno. He still occasionally walks by and says "I still can't believe I got that guitar."

$2999.00? Nope, $1800.00, Nope, $799.00, Nope! Well all of those prices, could apply, to this excellent Les Paul. I yeah I forgot it is an Epiphone, but it plays like a Gibson! I have only had it a week and I am so excited with it. For one you can'r stop looking at the beauty of this guitar, (I got the honey burst) secondly as soon as I plugged in adjusted the tone and switched to the rhythm position, I knew that I was home. I Have an expensive Strat and I love it, but I have missed a Les Paul. Again friends this is a real one. everything is tight, set up amazingly good, finish, pick ups and even the strings are really good. I must admit, at first I panicked when I saw that it was made in China. Don't give it a second thought. Epiphone must be doing a great job checking quality control and specs. What else can I say? I own a real Les Paul and I just love it....hands off! :)

I'd read a ton of reviews from multiple places, and unfortunately this guitar was a bit of a disappointment, maybe it was (un)luck of the draw but here's some issues with it. It arrived and the first thing I noticed was stress cracks in the finish on both sides of the string nut, no damage to the wood but it sucks, next upon changing the strings the D & G strings were pinched in the nut, and as I pulled the D string out the whole nut popped out. (I replaced with a TUSQ nut since it was already out). The action is higher than I'd like but too much fret buzz when lowering the action, so I put it back. I expected a more pronounced flame, it is very light on this particular guitar. Pots, and knobs are very cheap, so I'll have to replace them as well. The binding on the body near the neck (top side) has extra glue all over, and looks like the tried to hide a blemish in the flame veneer (chipped edge?). All that aside, it does play nice, the mahagony is absolutely beautiful, and the pickups are not as bad as I expected. This is why I did not RMA it, it does play well, good tone, and I am a beginner who only plays at home anyway. If it were lost or damaged, I would not buy another, I'd go with another brand most likely. I just expected a little more, I know it's not a Gibson, but feels like QC really let this one slide. ZZounds was great! easy pay, and at the time of purchase they had a special for 8 payments on select Epi's

What I mean by the title is that if I had 1500 to spend on a guitar I wouldn't have purchased this one.. So this review is from the point of view that I had 800 to purchase a guitar. This is the one the offered the best value and I liked the way it played so it one out. I played a few Gibson (studio lower end stuff) and this Epiphone is better made and a better player that the Gibson in my range.. ] It is a nice guitar, smooth neck I like the coil taps really lightens up the sound when you want it. The feel is great. I lowered the action a bit but it was set fine out of the box not real high. I just prefer low.. The pickups I don't know yet.. They sound alright.. better than the studio's pups.. Thinking of a set o slash duncans.. If you are in the range under 1000 you should give this one a shot.. Great little all around les paul.

This is my first Les Paul. I did have a minor issue with the first one i received, it had a finish crack on the neck. zZounds customer service is top notch, and they were quick with sending me a return label, and quick with sending a replacement. I'm very happy with this guitar. It looks a hundred times better than the picture (honeyburst), and sounds awesome! I highly recommend this guitar to anyone in the market for a good sounding, good playing instrument!

I LOVE this Guitar, the sound is amazing! I do not use the pickups as single coil but the humbuckers for stock are awesome. And for the price you can't go wrong. I bought the Wine Red Finish and it is Beautiful. A bit heavy but other than that way to go Epiphone.

ordered this guitar..2 days its at my house. although i just got it im completely thrilled with it. out of the box perfect. checked it over. sure the fret ends are not flush but you cant tell the difference between this and a 2000 buck gibson. super crisp and clean tone..and when you dirty it up it slings some mud...only complaint about this guitar is the color..and thats personal. the blue just isnt what i expected. 499.00 im not complaining a bit.

I just purchased a new vintage sunburst the guitar sounds great but my problem is that I purchased a supposed to be new guitar and when it arrived it came in the hard shell case which was fine but I pulled the guitar out and right away noticed scratches on the back and the front towards the top which was kind of disappointing to me because I was expecting a blemish free guitar

After looking at Ibenaz,Fender, and others I just couldn't get this Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Plus out of my mind. My son wanted the Ibenaz Ice but it was $200.00 more with less features. I felt like the Epiphone just sounded and played better so I ordered mine from Zzounds with a Fender Mustand II amp. Also purchaced the Epiphone case for the Les Paul guitar. I have had this setup for about one week and could not be happier. It has an astounding finish. I bought the Heritage Cherry Burst. Truly beautiful! Being new to the electric guitar world I have not been able to take advantage of all the features of both the guitar and the Fender amp. My son I play it every day and are having a great time . The action is perfect. I really like the way it came . The strings are fine and this guitar is very easy to play. One of the reasons I purchaced an electric guitar is that I do have arthritis in my left hand . While my Taylor 214 ce is one of the easiest acoustics to play I still had to skip a day some times. Now that is not the case. The quality control from Epiphone has really improved from what they were a few years ago. I highly recommend this Epiphone model without hesitation. I really love it!

I have been playing for about 5 years . I took lessons for about a year. Just play for fun but plan on taking lessons again .

"Epi Les Paul Plus Top Pro, Transparent Blue"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Nice looking guitar with great features. Had to send back as the color was not as advertised. Epiphone's web site features the guitar as transparent blue, however, the finish is actually a Blue Burst so it is not solid blue all the way through, but looks exactly like the Trans Blue on the Quilt Top Pro, except on a flame top. Some of the knobs appeared to be crooked as well - probably would not affect functionality, but again, Epiphone needs to step up QC here. Action was a tad high but intonation was pretty much spot on.Never plugged it in as I knew I was going to send it back. Epiphone needs to step up their QC in showing the correct finish/color and info on their own website as well as what they provide to retailers (they do other things like changing ebony to rosewood, and other anomalies without warning to customers). Zzounds was very cooperative and provided great customer service. Now looking at the Custom Pro or Tribute Plus. (disregard some of these ratings as I never plugged it in, etc.)

I have to say, upon opening the box when mine came. I was so excited only to be a little disappointed. When I removed the guitar from the box I always let it sit for a few hours to let it get to room temp before checking the setup. There were loose staples in the box with the guitar so you could imagine what I thought about the finish of the guitar. Luckily there were no scratches on the finish. I did some inspection on the guitar to see if there was anything wrong with it. One major problem was the pickup selector switch. It was bent to one side and broke the pivot. Lucky I have a music store close by so I was able to replace the switch. Would have been nice if Epiphone left a little more wire to the switch to solder a new one with no problems, but I got it done. It was time to check the setup on the Les Paul... I change out strings on all of my guitars to Elixir Super Lights Polywebs. I noticed a slight body vibration and couldn't figure it out. The pick protector was the problem. The screw on the guard mounting brace was a little to long and touching the body. I removed the guard and cut the screw. The guitar looks so nice without a pick guard, but the screw holes are noticeable so I put it back on. Checking the trussrod and I set my relief to about .010 to .015. Looks like it was set to .005 with no fret buzz. I tried to adjust it to what I wanted it to be and the neck didn't move. Figured after a week or so I'll check it again. Action is set on the low E 1.75mm and on the high E 1.50mm, that's about what I set mine too. If I went lower I think I would get some fret buzzing so I left it alone. As I put the trussrod cover back on, one screw is striped out. I'll have to fill the hole and redrill it out. Fret board seems to be ok, no cracking or high frets. It was a little dry, so I used Dunlop 65 on it. Got everything put back together and tuned it up for the last time. Plugged the Les Paul in and it sounds good. Plays well. I have to get use to the arch in the bridge. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II that I was practicing on had a flatter bridge and I got use to that. I bought the light blue one that darkens up as it gets to the edges. The binding looks good, they did get a little paint on the binding. The pull out for the single coils is a little noisy when used as a single coil, but from what I understand a single coil is a little noisy. The Grover tuners are great. I have put them on my Les Paul Special II and they are great. There is a difference in the 14:1 to the 18:1, but its not bad. I would buy this guitar again, but would be aware that there might be some problems. one star for Manufacturer Support, didn't have to call.

As I do with all of my Epi Les Pauls, gutted the components, knobs, and tuners. For this guitar, I put in switchcraft 3-way and mono jack, Gotoh bridge and tailpiece, Gotoh klusen tuners (replaceing grover chrome), gold reflector knobs. I replaced the pu's with Seymour Duncan Whole lotta humbers using all white bobbins with CTS 500k pots of course. This guitar has gone from good to spectacular. I put on Ernie Balls at .10 - .46. The gotoh bridge is wider and NO retaining wire. It will actually intonate unlike stock bridge from Epi. After all mods, this guitar is simply WOW.
