"Really NICE KIT!!!"

This is my 1st drum kit, and I gotta say It really is a sweet kit. After practicing on a RealFeel practice pad for a year I decided to upgrade to a real drum kit Well actually an electronic kit since I live in a high rise co-op. After researching different kits I had my heart set on the Roland TD11 but that kit is $1000! Again I am a raw beginner so I figured I need something with excellent quality but also within the budget. So the Alesis DM7x provided that. I am very happy with the kit . I have it 6 days I already can see the improvement in my playing. Now I DO Not consider myself a drummer but I can see where the practice on my pad has helped. Ok first I got the kit from zZounds ,got a great deal ,an offer I couldn't refuse. My son and I put the kit together in about an hr & a half. The instructions ARE vague and we had to go on the pictures in the instructions. The pre-assembled rack is great that WILL save you time in assembly. But we did do trial and error with the rest. But after the assembly is done the big test, actually going on the kit and taking it for a test drive. It really is superb. I still haven't figured out all the features on the kit but I am slowly learning how to raise the volume on the different drums & cymbals, playing with the different sounds and kits. Yes it has 40 kits built in ,but many sound the same. Also it would of been helpful if the kits had names, such as rock kit, metal kit, latin kit and so on. Now the pedals are ok , as in other reviews the HiHat pedal is kind of bogus. It just makes the sounds of a open or close hihat. But at my playing skill its just fine. With the Alesis you do get the bass drum pedal that is pretty good, now I gotta get a better rug to put the pedals on. with the Roland kits the bass drum pedals are extra! So as of right now the Alesis DM7x kit is a family favorite both my sons think its a great kit, even my wife thinks I did a good job getting it. Oh did say Im 55 years old just starting to learn drums! I figure If I keep practicing I can give a little concert at my retirement party in a couple of years. HaHa! Well I'll update this review as I go along But as of right now you cant beat this kit !!!

"Excellent Kit"

I'm just an old guy that hasn't played in forty years or so. I bought this kit to see if I still have any talent, and can practice my repeated riffs without disturbing mankind. I have been using the headphones, and have been able to get up to speed. Unfortunately for me, that speed is completely inconsistent, and I pretty much suck at drumming. But I am having alot of fun, and HIGHLY recommend this kit for beginners or masters that just need quiet.
Sound
Very nice sound. It will never sound like an acoustic kit, you could spend thousands and still not achieve that. But I am quite pleased with the sound this produces. I ran it through an old receiver I had for the first month or so, then purchased the Alesis Transactive Drummer Amp. That made the kit complete, and self contained. Sounds terrific, and can put out some volume!
Features
I like the feel of the pads, you can get a realistic bounce. The kick pedal leaves a lot to be desired. It does have a tendency to double beat the trigger, but I am trying different adjustments to minimize that effect. I will be upgrading to a kick pad in the near future. The high-hat does an adequate job, but it sometimes touchy. The module is good, with a lot of features. Their user manual really blows. Easy fix- google "DD 512 e-drum manual" and you will find a comprehensive guide for the same module, sold by a different company. It has all of the sounds and kit listings as well.
Ease of Use
The module produces almost every sound you need/want. The aforementioned manual is a big help.
Quality
This was well built, and easy to put together.
Value
This product is worth the advertised $700, but you can bargain down. I paid $523 and free shipping.
Manufacturer Support
Alesis customer support is responsive, but not real informative. I was asking for a list of "voices," and they had nothing. That's when I found the information elsewhere.
The Wow Factor
This kit, above all others, has everything you would want. The extra tom and crash are nice, and it does exactly what I expected it to do.

just getting into drumming again after a first shot at it years ago when I didn't feel a need to practice, and as a result quit drums..... now many years later as a decent guitar player, I decided to get this kit and practice daily--the tracking on this is excellent, hardware sturdy enough, and the 40 drumkits are adequate..... I think this is def worth the 700 dollars or so,and im enjoying beating on the "old skins again" --this time, im practicing so that makes a big difference also........

Purchased these drums to rehearse at home quietly but realized very quickly that they can be used live as well. Great sound for the price. The technology has advanced so much in 30 years since the original electronic drum kits began to emerge. This is a mid range price tag drum set with high end action. Cymbals have "clamp" ability with your hands, neoprene rubber rim has realistic rim shot sound and the pads have touch sensitivity for a natural playing action. Unlike the mylar heads, these are much more quiet. Programming pads is very easy, I have my high hat pedal set as a second base drum - when depressed, will still maintain a clamped HH sound and when released will produce the open high hat without triggering the base drum. Dual function!! Double kick mode works pretty good even though the pedal is designed for high hat use. Tons 'o fun.... Auxiliary input allows external audio for "play along" and kit can be recorded independently. There is midi capability but I have not tinkered with that. Always played acoustic drums but should have bought a set of these years ago. Never heard of anyone ever having a problem with any Alesis products - Very happy with this purchase
