I purchased this guitar to serve as a backup to my workhorse 314ce. It arrived with a great setup, played fine right out of the box. Sounds great! I also own a GS Mini and I have to say that I'm pleased with the quality of the instruments that Taylor is producing at their facility in Mexico. No dead spots, no wolf notes, and all of the strings have great sustain up and down the fretboard. I can definitely tell the difference in tone when compared to the all-solid 314ce, but it still sounds wonderful at less than half the price. In fact, this is one of the better sounding laminate back/side guitars that I've played. For the money, this guitar is excellent. The ES2, compared to the ES1.3 that I'm used to, isn't quite as plug-and-play friendly. It actually sounds more natural than the 1.3, but I find it to be less dynamic and the tone almost sounds compressed with a pretty big bump in the midrange compared to the previous ES. It still sounds way better than a standard piezo UST though, and it's just fine for gigging. Just be prepared to play with the EQ some. If you're looking for a good intermediate instrument or a guitar to take to the gigs that you don't want to risk bringing out your high dollar heirloom, the 114ce is a strong choice! It's plenty good enough to gig on!
