zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Cool tremelo sounds modeled from vintage gear.
Overview
Tremolator is not your grandmother's tremolo device. Sure, it can do the coolest guitar tremolo north (and south) of the Mason-Dixon line, but that's just the beginning. Pick your favorite shape, tweak the groove and lock it to your beat - this is the most musical tremolo available anywhere. And that's not all. Tremolator's innovative rhythm pattern editor gives you the power to completely transform your music. Stutter-cut drum loops, turn power chords into awesome rhythm tracks, or create a cool vibe on a keyboard part - you'll never think of tremolo the same way again.
SoundToys has said a bunch of times that they're not really into 'modeling' classic gear (they're more into innovation than imitation.) However, with Tremolator, our curiosity got the best of us. They dragged in a bunch of dusty old gear and painstakingly copied every little volume wiggle these old geezers produced. The result is a set of cool, and very different sounding tremolo shapes that are only a mouse-click away. Our 'modeled' shapes include a Fender Vibrolux, the obscure but cool-sounding MultiVox Premier, vintage SilverTone and DanElectro amps, and a classic Wurlitzer 200B piano.
We didn't stop with a bunch of modeled amp shapes. Tremolator also includes a range of new shapes, from ultra-smooth sine wave tremolo, to super-aggressive square wave shapes. And if one of the built-in shapes isn't exactly what you want, just dig into the shape editor and draw in whatever shape you'd like - it's really easy!… read more
Now here's where it gets really cool. You can use Tremolator's rhythm pattern editor (first seen in FilterFreak), to create a tremolo with ANY rhythm you can imagine. Choose an aggressive shape (like square wave), lock Tremolator to MIDI, and you can instantly create rapid-fire transform effects in perfect sync with your music. Try this on guitar, keyboard, vocals, drum loops, or even full mixes - this effect might be just what your new hit single is looking for!
This one SoundToys borrowed from our Mod Factory "plug-in" for the Eventide H3000 (back when a plug-in was actually a computer chip that was plugged in to the circuit board!). One of our favorite effects from Mod Factory was a dynamic tremolo - play louder to get a faster tremolo effect and play softer for a slower effect. You'll have to look in the 'Tweak' menu to find it, but they've re-created this in Tremolator. We've also added a dynamic tremolo depth. We're really excited about this, because it allows Tremolator to get 'out of the way' of your playing. With dynamic depth control, the attack transients of your notes are unmolested, and your long sustained notes get beautiful shimmering tremolo.
And finally, Tremolator also includes our dunked-in-butter, super-bad-cholesterol-inducing analog section. This section alone is more than worth the price of admission. Flip the Analog Mode switch, and Tremolator will coat your sound with a healthy layer of fat that sounds good on just about everything. Depending on your track and your mood, dial in different analog characters, including clean, fat, dirt, crunch and punch.
