Overview
When Schecter Guitar Research debuted their Apocalypse electric guitar series, bassists demanded a bass with similar high-end specs and aggressive style, and the C-5 Apocalypse is it! Built to withstand the Apocalypse, a 5-ply Maple/Padauk laminate neck is reinforced with carbon-fiber rods and crowned with an ebony fingerboard bejeweled with 24 stainless steel extra-jumbo frets, whose minimalist Mother-of-Pearl triangle inlays at the 12th and 24th fret and glow-in-the-dark side-dot inlays keep you on track. The 35" scale neck is set into a swamp-ash body utilizing an Ultra-Access neck joint for unfettered access to the entire fretboard.
Powering this beast is a pair of Schecter US Custom Shop's Apocalypse-5 Bass humbuckers. These earth-shaking, high-transparency passive pickups deliver massive slabs of warm, defined low-end tone with a strong upper-midrange presence and the punch of a meteor-impact, and are appointed with versatile individual series/split/parallel toggle-switches to allow the player to cover nearly any tonal ground. Grover 144 tuners and a Graph-Tech BlackTusq XL nut provide smooth and stable tuning, while the Schecter Custom-5 Bridge allows for either top-mounting or through-body string mounting, and efficiently couples your strings to the instrument's body for incredibly deep tones and amazing sustain.

A great, great looking, versatile bass that will surprise you with it's genuinely vintage tone!
Sound
It has a surprisingly vintage tone! I consider myself a metal bass player but I am currently playing with a bluesy hard rock band and it sounds so warm and woody like Fender P-bass when you run it straight into an amp without any outboard shenanigans. The B string is so tight, not farty, and sounds so full and round compared to the lower register of the E string, you'll never want to play a four string bass again!
Features
I cant stress enough how unique the passive humbuckers make this bass sound. Not to denigrate a modern active bass, but there is no woof that you get from a bass boosted active bass, this bass just wont do it, it has more of a dry midrange bite even if you boost the bass on an EQ or parametric setting on the amp. No more pissing the sound man off when you boost the low end mid set!
Ease of Use
Like another review said, if you aren't able to make adjustments/set up a bass yourself this bass offers some challenges. My main issue was the G string sliding off the neck mid-playing. Which would frustrate the hell out of a beginner for sure. Also if you're not accustomed to playing a 5 string the string spacing will definitely be a challenge for finger style players, but once you become accustomed to the neck, it's such a joy to play especially for the above mentioned accolades… read more of the B string.
Quality
My only complaint is the finish is coming off WAY to easy where my fingernails hit the body when I'm resting my thumb on the pickups , which is 95% of the time! Never have I had a finish come off so easily and the wood itself is starting to degrade! A big "WTF?" complaint!

It looks great! The high mass bridge, the black binding, ebony fingerboard with only two fingerboard fret markers compensated by glow in the dark neck top markers! Finish is so cool (despite its lack of durability) the neck thru design is beautiful from the back.
