Marshall 1987XL Plexi Guitar Amplifier Head (50 Watts)

Plug into an icon. With 50 watts of power delivering that classic "Plexi" tone, the Marshall 1987XL head is a faithful reproduction of the original 1959SLP.

Though the 50-watt 1987XL shares the same front and rear panel features as its big brother, the 1959 SLP, it does have its own distinct personality. Sweet warm singing sounds are packed into every nook and cranny of this great tone machine. As is the case with the 1959SLP, the 1987X has fittings and hardware as true to the originals as humanly possible, thus ensuring that authentic Marshall "Vintage" look.

The Marshall re-issue models all are faithful reproductions of the originals, which shaped the sound of the electric guitar. The main characteristic that these amps share is their simplicity of operation and superb natural valve tone. Achieving the beautifully organic and vibrant overdrive, which is their trademark, can only be done in one way - crank 'em up! The result is pure, majestic tone uncluttered by unnecessary circuitry. With solos this produces a big, round, warm, sustain, full of classic character. With chord work you get a bark and percussive attack with a natural sounding break up, which allows each note to ring out in a glorious musical crunch.

I'll never sell it. If lost, stolen, or wrecked, I'd have to look for a used one, I got this for $500 less than the usual discounted price.

Sound
I don't think a bad sound can get through this amp. (I don't mean it will help bad playing or cover up bad playing.) It loves effects pedals and they do NOT come through fuzzy/buzzy. Don't try this if you love the amp you have, it will break up that relationship. It sounds so nice you won't miss reverb, it doesn't have it remember. It really is all that people say it is and it is good to have so I don't go thinking my transistor amps sound so hot. Be careful, this amp will change your ears.

Features
I don't know what to say here. It's best feature is it doesn't have many. It's just a pure old time tube amp. The effects send/return can be switched out of the circuit and that is a new feature for this model.

Quality
I don't really know, I'm not an electronics engineer. It probably isn't the very best in the world, but it sounds great, looks great, and people recognize this amp as a true ICON in the business.

Value
The price didn't go up in the US, the US dollar was devalued by about 40%.

Manufacturer Support
The support in the UK is incredible, don't know about the States. I hear bad things about support in the States, but no experience there.

It's like knowing you have a proper foundation to build upon. It's an amp everyone should have the opportunity to play to measure the sound of their own amp. I bought it for it's sound.
