Martin 00017SM Acoustic Guitars have the body of a Style 17 guitar, known for the blues, especially during the early 1900s. The dry, crisp tone attracted many blues players. As early as the mid 1800s Martin built Spruce top acoustic guitars. These 12-fret Style 17 guitars are making a come back courtesy of Martin. This 000-17SM acoustic guitar has a Sitka spruce top with a simple Style 17 single rosette and modern A-frame bracing, giving this guitar the best of both tonalities. This guitar has a balanced, woody sound of a 000 Mahogany body combined with the clear articulation of a spruce top. The 000-17SM features a slotted 12-fret Mahogany neck that tapers from 2.25 inches at the saddle to 1.75 inches at the nut. Unique looks and features to the 00017SM are the brown tortoise top bindings, a special dark shaded high gloss top, and Waverly Golden Age tuners with ivoroid buttons.

This is my first 12 fret guitar and the 1.75 nut is new to me too. I was not sure what the string spacing would feel like but It seems very comfortable to me and I like it . This is a very light guitar and sounds wonderful, the setup from the factory is very good, great action and plays easily. The finish is fantastic and I can find no faults in it at all. This is a beautiful and rich sounding guitar well worth the money, maybe not top end but heads above low end, a guitar you can be proud to play. My one complaint would be the tuners which seem to lose the smoothness required for small adjustments at pitch, but they look good.... All in all a great guitar and I would replace it immediately if lost or damaged. Martin has a winner with this !
