"Capable Monitor with Stiff Competition"

I purchased a pair of these to replace my HS8s. After setup, break in and calibration (with Sonarworks) I found them to have more high end detail and a larger sweet spot. However they produced a few Hz less low end in the same position in the same room as my HS8s. I found that surprising given the XR824s are advertised as going down to 36Hz at -3dB while the HS8s are advertised as going down to 47Hz at -3dB (38Hz at -10dB).I also took issue with the overall fit and finish of the XR824 monitors. Both speakers came with a large sticker on the front that left residue which took some effort to carefully remove. Also, one of the speakers I received had a small dent in the metal piece that surrounds the tweeter. Lastly, the dimensions listed everywhere online for these speakers are incorrect. Only on the box and in the manual are the correct dimensions listed (10"W x 10.5"D x 15.7"H). Everywhere else (even Mackie.com) says the speakers are 10.8"W x 13.8"D x 16.8"H. That's no small discrepancy.Ultimately I chose to stick with my HS8s. Aesthetics and low end are my primary concerns and the XR824s I received fell short. Given they cost more and were poorly presented it's hard for me to recommend them over the competition.
