Lindell Audio 7X-500 FET Compressor

Add one channel of classic 1176-style compression to your studio. Lindell Audio's Seven X Five Hundred compressor fits in 500-series power supply chassis.

The Lindell Audio Seven X Five Hundred is a one-channel compressor/limiter. It's a FET (field effect transistor) design that incorporates exclusive features like the "High Pass Sidechain Filter" and "Mix Knob" mix between dry and wet signal (parallel compression).

The 7X-500 is Lindell's take on the classic "1176 Sound." It can be smooth, or it can be a rock'n'roll monster when using ratio 100:1 (all in).

Features:

- FET-style compressor
- Variable mix control for precise parallel compression
- 3-step switched attack times
- 3-step switched release times
- 3-step switched high pass sidechain filter. Off, 100Hz, 300Hz
- 3-step switched ratio 4:1, 12:1, 100:1 (all in)
- True hardware bypass
- Transformer-balanced output
- 20-LED gain reduction meter
- Gold-plated PCB

Firstly take into consideration I am weighting this review. Value based upon price paid. Never contacted them for support so.... The value considering the price is VERY high! I have easily paid twice as much for a compressor that I will use as much as this one. It is like the 2013 FMR Audio RNC. Amazingly valuable based upon cost. Don't expect transparency. This unit will impart some tone... albeit a nice one, and it distorts/fattens very nicely as well. Overall very quiet, and easy to dial in. It is one of those "no setting is wrong" boxes. IMO adding the dry/wet knob was a brilliant choice on their part. On the downside in my hand the unit felt flimsy to the point of being fragile. Once mounted in my lunchbox the knobs feel really strong, and give a nice firm feeling when twisted. The switches; however, still feel a bit fragile. Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of if you have a heavy handed, or clumsy assistant. It tackles a wide range of tasks well going from fairly quick to slow and gentle quite easily... Even though it's not completely transparent when used sparingly it can stay out of the way enough to be of use. If you're looking to completely trash something up it can serve up that dish easily as well. Overall I am very impressed with this unit and would highly recommend to anyone considering. Again it is a budget box and I'm sure someone with $1k or better could find something better for their needs; however, if you're in the $500 range this is read more a good value and worth considering compared to what else is out there... Can you do better for about $600? Probably... but considering that you could have two of these for that price it's a decision you will have to make for yourself. Kudos Lindell Audio!
