Five Building Blocks to Clear Sound

It takes more than an accurate speaker system to have accurate response at the mix position. The key to accuracy is tackling the effect of boundaries, standing waves and reflections. read more In developing the LSR6300 series, JBL examined each problem in the environment and created the perfect solution. I plan to keep these for a very long time. Music or voice mixes translate well to high-end home sound systems, as well as upper-eschelon systems, car audio, and lower-end home sound. I rarely need to re-tweak the mix after listening on a different system. 9 overall, and not a 10 because there is not as much EQ control as I would like.

Sound
The sound of the system is very accurate. Familiar music reveals new clarity and nuance. Subtle features of the music present themselves for easy mixing. Mixes translate to other mediums well.

Features
I purchased the pair of LSR25Ps (along with the LSR6312SP Subwoofer, which came with a calibration kit (mic/SPL meter, test tones on CD, instructions)). Each LSR25P has an on/off switch, on/off green LED and detented volume knob (allowing you to count detents to match volumes-great) on the front. The back panel includes a power cord plug (removable), XLR (+4dBu) and RCA (+10dBV) inputs. There are 4 discrete settings for adjusting to room conditions (such as high pass or boundry compensation, and high frequency shelving +/-1.5dB (>2.2kHz). The controls and connectors are all very solid. The room condition settings are nice, and basically allowed tuning within reason, but I'd prefer more control over the EQ rather than only the 4 settings (note that each can be used independantly) That said, the compensation allows for much more accuracy than monitors without the feature, read more which are most of them.

Ease of Use
These were easy to use and set up. Set up (room tuning) is easier than with an EQ or speaker managment system.

Quality
These absolutely feel like granite when held in your two hands. They are much heavier than they appear. The outer surface feels like it is rubberized. The cabinets are cast metal. Connectors and switches all have positive feel. No problems in over a year. I have pounded these while using them as more of a PA system than monitors (even running bass guitar, synthesizers, guitars, DJ scratching, etc. all at once during home jam sessions. They've sustained their share of pops too. No problems.

Value
Price is good for the smaller, more compact professional product. There are other seamingly as-good monitors, with lower price. However, I would put these LSRs against anything out there for compact accurate reproduction. If you weigh price more heavily in your 'value equation' then maybe these deserve more of an 8 than a 10.

The Wow Factor
I like that JBL changed to black (from silver/gray). They are very simple and unobtrusive looking, in a classy way. What gave them their gotta-have-it factor was the clear and uncolored sound. After borrowing a set of these, I absolutely had to have 'em, and I'm still completely enjoying them over a year later. They fit my 15x20 room very nicely.
