-15dB attenuation switch. Low frequency roll-off switch.
Overview
The Groove Tubes GT44 is a no-compromise tube mic delivering better performance and sound than the most prestigious mics costing much more. This reissue of their top-firing true condenser features a hand-assembled, hand-tested .75-inch diameter capsule. The amazingly thin 6-micron evaporated-gold diaphragm provides incredible sensitivity that delivers a sparkling, transparent sound across the full frequency spectrum. Groove Tubes rigorous quality control also insures that your mic is within +/-1dB of our 'golden' microphone spec. They proprietary design even allows you to purchase optional capsules, saving you the expense of buying multiple microphones. Includes switches for -15dB attenuation pad and low frequency roll-off filter (75Hz).
Applications
Groove Tubes clean, full-sounding tube technology combines with an all-brass capsule to produce a smooth bottom and accurate tone perfect for capturing incredibly realistic sound. Due to the reduced proximity effect compared to larger capsules, this mid-sized capsule is great for recording a vocalist who already has a big voice. Our mid-size design is an industry favorite for miking acoustic guitar as well. The GT44 is also great for piano, drums, percussion, and literally just about anything else -- including recording stereo performances when paired.
Cardioid Pattern
The cardioid is the most universal polar pattern found in microphones. This is because the back of the microphone rejects sound, allowing the engineer to isolate… read more the signal source from other performance elements or background noise.
Super-Cardioid Pattern (optional*)
The super-cardioid pattern exhibits an extremely narrow sensitivity window for very sonically focused recording. Super-cardioid is great for zeroing in on a that perfect sweet spot for instruments such as piano or drum. This pattern is also ideal for live recording sessions where isolation is important, including minimizing bleed between a vocalist and their own instrument.
Omni (optional*)
As the name implies, the omni-directional pattern picks up sound without directional discrimination. Use omni to capture room resonance that yields a more open sound compared to the more 'beamy' quality of cardioid. It's great for vocal groups, Foley sound effects, and realistic acoustic instruments. Omni is also less sensitive to the proximity of a vocalist to the microphone.
The Secret Behind Their Tubes
Over the course of more than 2 decades, they've learned that great tube mics start with great tubes. The design differs from others in that they use triode wiring on specially selected miniature pentode tubes to yield low noise and incredibly realistic dynamic response. You get the best of both worlds: smooth vintage tone combined with modern studio high-fidelity specs. Their tubes are military spec and they produce or control production of most critical path components in our tube mics. In fact, Groove Tubes' quality control department is so discriminating that they reject more tubes than they accept. They leave no stone unturned in bringing you the best electronics. They've even designed their power supplies with load balancing circuitry that allows cable runs of more than 200 feet with no deviation from optimal performance..
