Build your studio around this 18-in/20-out USB audio interface -- and capture stunning recordings through 8 Clarett mic preamps with Focusrite's AIR circuit.

Clarett USB lays down the challenge to interfaces twice the price. The Clarett USB range features specially designed high performance, low-noise (-128dB EIN) mic pres with a low distortion, ultra-linear design that guarantees a clean, open and transparent sound, giving accurate representation of the original performance. Boasting 118dB dynamic range, Clarett can now be experienced with any Mac or PC supporting USB 2.0 and above. Decades of analogue circuit design experience, applied around 24-bit/192kHz A-D and D-A conversion, delivers a superior signal path -- beating interfaces costing hundreds more.

The Focusrite Clarett 8Pre USB is an 18-in, 20-out audio interface. Six-segment LED metering easily shows the signal level of the eight mic/line inputs, two of which are also high-impedance instrument inputs that can record super-hot pickups with no unwanted distortion. MIDI I/O and S/PDIF I/O are also included. ADAT I/O allows you to expand your setup with up to eight extra inputs and outputs when combined with multi-channel mic preamps like Clarett OctoPre. Analogue outs include two monitor outputs with anti-thump technology, eight line outputs, two headphone outputs with volume controls, and a word clock output for sending clock signal to external devices.

I've had my eye on this particular interface for a while now. I've had the Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 for like 11 years and it worked perfect but it was clearly outdated and so it was time for an upgrade. I definitely wanted to get Focusrite again but something higher in their product line up, Clarett really got my attention. I wanted something rack mounted. I just ordered a 2 space rack for my desk top, it will go perfectly with my new 8pre USB and my Furman power conditioner, thats all I need at this point. Anyway I jumped on this particular one because its supposedly blemished and seeing as how the Clarett 8pre USB is currently on back order and wont be available for months I figured this was a great opportunity that I couldn't let pass up. Im glad I did! The interface came one day earlier than expected and there was only one semi-noticeable scuff mark on the top of the interface which doesn't bother me one bit because I purchased it for a hundred dollars less than what I would've paid for a brand new one. This unit is going into a rack and no one will ever see this "blemish" anyway, I lovez zounds. This thing is quality! The knobs feel solid and have a nice resistance to them. I think my favorite feature about this interface is the front LED signal monitor display. It has a signal monitor for inputs 1-8 and for the L/R (Stereo Out). The stereo out led's make it so convenient to adjust your input signals accordingly. I mean mostly when you're listening to music or watching youtube read more videos, a ton of people upload/ create videos and songs with a peaking signal and when I see those led's hitting the red I know to turn down the input volume.
