The Les Paul Standard '60s models from Epiphone's Inspired by Gibson Collection recreate the sound of 1960s era Les Pauls -- featuring a classic mahogany body with a maple cap, Wilkinson tuners, and powered by ProBucker humbuckers with CTS electronics. Epiphone's long friendship with Mr. Les Paul began in 1940 when Les built one of the world's first solid body electric guitars while working nights at the original Epiphone factory in Manhattan. Les' first solidbody guitar, nicknamed "the Log", would go on to inspire the Les Paul Standard, what many consider the greatest electric guitar ever made.

Okay so I buy Epiphones instead of Gibsons (usually) because I like hotrod guitars. Yes, I can afford Gibson but tearing apart a $3,000 guitar just seems wrong. So I usually gut Epis and swap stuff around until I’m happy (think 50s wiring with Super Distortion humbuckers). After reading up on giving Probuckers a chance I decided, what the heck, I’ll buy one and tweak my amp settings and see what happens. Well, I feel I owe an apology to Epiphone, this guitar has excellent electronics “as is” if looking for a PAF sound. Also the fit and finish (as with most of these Inspired By) is exceptional. Given the price point, the quality and these gorgeous tops and finishes, I wonder if Gibson isn’t canibalising their own line. The danged thing was nearly in tune out of the box. Needs an intonation job (obviously).
Sound
I’d put the fit and finish at least on par with Gibson. Unlike Gibson, the hardware is a little different, pickups a little different. I said “different” not worse or better. The differences are extremely subtle.
Features
It’s a Les Paul. It does Les Paul very, very well.
Ease of Use
Good amp? Setup, tune, plug, go.
Quality
Extremely well made. Excellent QA. Expect a minor setup (as with every new guitar).
Value
Probably a best buy, more value than you should expect for the price.
Manufacturer Support
Never dealt with Epiphone.
The Wow Factor
It is beautiful to look at.
