The first Explorer Bass was issued in the early 1980s but only stayed in production for three years but has since become a legend of its own among metal and hard rock players for its tremendous tone. Now, Epiphone introduces the legendary Explorer Bass to a new generation with an all Korina (also known as African Limba) body for a look and sound unlike any other instrument in the world!

Solid Korina Body

The Ltd. Ed. Korina Explorer Bass is made from solid Korina, one of the great tone woods for electric instruments. Korina was first used for by Gibson in the late 50s for the first limited run of the Flying V and Explorer. Few were made but Korina quickly drew the admiration of luthiers and guitarists for its warm tone and strong resonant properties. The new Ltd. Ed. Korina Explorer Bass is finished in Antique Natural to show off the fine and delicate grain. Korina wood is also lightweight so even though the Ltd. Ed. Korina Explorer Bass may look old-school space age radical, it's easy to hold and comfortable to play. The profile of read more the black and white pickguard is reminiscent of the first generation of rare Explorers.

I bought this on a whim because I was tired of playing “traditional” shaped Basses. I bought a thunderbird and thought I would try this one out right? Just to keep with a theme. Wow was I shocked: I had been looking at pickups to replace the stock ones and to my surprise I don’t need them. Epiphone has stepped up their game. A few minor tweaks and this thing is a beast. Way different from my t bird. This is what I was looking for. Great construction. Solid as a rock. Hardware is fantastic and gleams professionalism. Do not be scared of the name. I played many Gibsons and this bass will hold its own. The sound is warm but has quite a bite. Balanced well. I use a strap that is 3.5 inches wide and has an unfinished back. This bass rocks. Had it 1 day. zZounds rocks!
