Black Lion Audio 17 Seventeen FET Compressor

Dial in some attitude. BLA delivers fast attack like the iconic '76 -- plus a frequency-adjustable sidechain, separate high- and low-pass, and wet/dry blend.

Designed with prolific producer/engineer Tobias Lindell, and built in Chicago by Black Lion Audio, the Seventeen compressor is BLA's new, improved take on the classic '76 Limiting Amplifier you know and love!

Lightning-fast attack and release times make the Seventeen your go-to compressor/limiter for everything from gently sitting on peaks, to all-out brickwall limiting. And yes -- it even does the infamous "All Buttons In" mode, notable for its distinctive, punchy attack and fuzzy distortion.

Unlike your run-of-the-mill '76 clone, the Seventeen FET compressor gives you a frequency-adjustable sidechain, independent high-pass and low-pass filter, and a wet/dry blend knob for parallel compression -- so you can keep transients intact while controlling dynamics. With the Seventeen, BLA has taken an already-versatile tone machine, and added even more flexibility.

As you might expect from the painstaking engineers at Black Lion Audio, the Seventeen delivers an open, airy top end and fat lows, thanks to a custom-designed output transformer and IC-based front end, with BLA's proprietary power coupling for a low noise floor.

The BLA Seventeen includes the must-have Stereo Link function that allows you to link two units -- perfect for bus compression on drums, piano, room mics, the full mix, or any other stereo source you care to crush...Oh, and the price point makes it feasible to actually own a pair of these bad boys.

Black Lion Audio 17 Seventeen

The Black Lion Audio Seventeen is not the '76 compressor that your grandfather recorded with. It isn't even a remake, but rather, the Black Lion spin on what the '76 should have been. Designed in conjunction with hitmaker Tobias Lindell and featuring a redesigned and improved IC based front end, the Seventeen shows incredible detail and nuance normally not possible with this style compressor.

This new front end circuit is coupled with the custom designed, made in Chicago output transformer, designed to give this unit a huge bottom end that balances out the open top end very nicely. BLA also included the proprietary Black Lion style power decoupling for an incredibly low noise floor. The Seventeen also uses high grade nichicon signal capacitors, widely considered some of the highest quality caps available.

Never the ones to settle for "good enough," BLA added features that users normally consider as upgrades or mods including, a frequency adjustable side chain, separate selectable high and low pass filters, a wet/dry mix knob to allow users to blend in dry signal into their compressed signal, the Seventeen has a palette of tones not available to anything else on the market today. It also includes the all important stereo link function for linking together two units.

I really love the Black Lion Audio 17 Seventeen compressor. It works awesome with the Black Lion Audio Revolution 2X2 Interface. I also purchased this interface from ZZOUNDS. I’m currently running the seventeen on vocals. My chain set up goes from my SHURESM7B W/ Cloud-lifter running to my DBX286S channel strip. Second, my DBX286S running to my new Black Lion Audio Seventeen. 3rd from the seventeen back into my interface. The seventeen is FABULOUS at what it’s made to do and that is compression. It’s so nice, smooth, and a total BEAST. You can gently smooth out the the peaks and or just go to BRICKWALL limiting. It only comes with XLR hook-ups, but that’s cool with me. I love the compression and that glorious warm 76 analog emulation sound. The knobs are well built with that professional touch. The attack/release is great! A well lit metering section and it’s easy to see on the eyes. The side-chain is just crazy good. The entire unit is simply well built and professional grade. This is Black Lion… and the components that are on the inside happens to be the best of the best Especially, in comparison to its price. If you’re looking for that one compressor that has that it FACTOR. Hey, look no further this is the one. TRUST ME!!!
