A tremendous amount of attention has been put into ensuring that performance matches that of the original speakers. The CLA10 is made from MDF with real wood veneer. Avantone changed the rear terminal plate to use a better grade of connector.

The AV10-MHF tweeter dome went through a difficult engineering process to get the exact phenolic resin doping to match the original performance curve. Avantone does this in-house to ensure an exact match with every lot. AV10-MLF woofer uses custom tooled mechanical parts that exactly match the original NS10M, allowing a drop-in replacement.

The AV10-MLF woofer cone is made to match the original, even though the materials are slightly different. The original vendor is the supplier and Avantone worked closely with them to get the same stiffness and weight. We went with a pressed cone rather than a die cut and lapped joint after testing showed no acoustic difference. This allows tighter control over stiffness and weight.

Both the woofer and tweeter use a different plating material to meet current ROHS and WEEE requirements.… read more The crossover network uses the same value capacitors -- just a better grade of material and rating. The inductors exactly match the original in dc resistance, winding dimensions and value. Avantone's manufacturing processes actually have a tighter tolerance in production than the original components, typically maintaining +/-0.5dB within any batch. This has the added benefit of being the first time matched pairs are truly available.

Avantone tested their components in one of the top studios in the world, where the recording engineers using these monitors agree that they are an exact match to the originals. As Chris Lord-Alge says, "I put my mixing reputation on these great speakers, and I am mixing on them as I write this."
