Feature:
The unit has lots of features that other processors dont have, like some cool effects called time-trip and step cry, aswell as a ring modulator and a 3 band isolator. The unit also works well as a mastering-processor because if you install the RFX2000ED software (dl from www.zoom.jp.co) and hook the unit up with MIDI it has (!!! listen up) a multi-band compressor, 31 band graphic eq + 5 band parametric eq AND a up to 20 tap delay which each individual TAP can have its time set! (That means that you can create a rhythmic delay pattern of 20 individual taps..) All these last mentioned effects can only be accesed with the RFX2000ED software, so GET IT if you have a RFX-2200 or RFX-2000. The mic input in the front is probably convenient for live use, but i use it in my studio so i dont really use it.
4 parameters effect can be edited. Tap button for delay-time setting. Digital output with both optical and coaxial connections. Only reason i gave it a 9 here is because i lack a digital input.. that would be nice. And the display could have been a little more advanced.
Quality:
The finish is smooth and everything seems of high quality. I havent noticed any bugs in its software yet. The knobs are silky and light.
The input level-meter seems to be a little over-feeded, cause the clip LED lights up when the sound doesnt really clip, so 0 dB on the meter is more like -3 dB of sound. Not a big flaw though.
Value:
The Price/Features ratio for this unit is great. You get lots of features I didnt even knew it had before i downloaded the software. Definitely worth the 250$ i spent on it.
Desirability:
Looks sexy? The unit hides much under its trunk that u might not think at first sight. The all-red LEDs might be scary to someone, they could have had atleast one green led :P But its sexxy though. (btw, the input-level meter has green leds ofcourse.)
Sound:
I really cant find any complaints on the sound. 24-bit internal processing at 44,1khz and 20-bit AD/DA-converters. The reverbs are absolutely stunning, I'd buy the unit for the reverbs alone. The other effects are of pristine quality too.
Support:
I contacted them about their RFX2000ED software, they replied quickly and gave me a precise answer. They seemed nice. Their website is pretty OK and the manual is very good.
Overall:
The Zoom RFX-2200 is to be a very good buy and i reccommend it to people who are looking for a one-in-all studio-processor. It has all the high-quality reverbs you need plus all the ol' normal effects such as delays, chorus, flanger, phaser plus the more rare effects ring-mod, isolator and pitch-delay. What makes it so original and versatile is all the other effecs unique to Zoom and the mastering-features. Very well done this time Zoom! I'll keep it for a long time.
