Sound: The pianos are the best I've heard;the electric pianos, organs, all top notch. Excellent keyboard. Pushing the two acoustic piano buttons at the same time gets you a nice octave sound, WHICH TRANSMITS OVER MIDI, for 12 string guitar parts, etc. Feature: Great (though squeaky) pedal, usable internal speakers. Wish it had mod and pitch wheels... Quality: A fantastic value; I've had it a year and there is no difference in the way it plays, sounds, or looks. I expect to have it for many years to come. Yamaha makes instruments. Value: What a gift it is to be able to afford a piano of this quality for this price. I've waited 30 years for this keyboard. Manufacturer Support: Never had to deal with them The Wow Factor: It's not sexy; get a triton or motif if you want sexy. If you want a piano that plays and sounds like a piano, particularly for jazz, blues and rock, this is the one. Overall: I have a 49 key midi controller sitting above this keyboard. With these two, I can rule the universe. I wish this keyboard had mod and pitch wheels, but there they are, right above.

Sound: I've been looking for one of these digital pianos for a long time. I've played the newer P-155, though I haven't played the P-140 I'm not interested in trying that board. The 64 note polyphony is more tan enough trust me I get crazy with it, this piano has a GREAT tone and In my opinion, blows the P-155 away. The sound samples are somewhat darker sounding. Feature: Has everything I want, a good grand piano tone. good other voices as well, though the electric bass tone is okay, but I did not buy it for that, also the rhodes sound is amazing as well. Ease of Use: It's easy to get the sound I want, right there when I turn it on it defaults to it. Quality: It's made well, the people that said the keys break, the ones made before 2004 had this problem yamaha has fixed it with the newer p-140 keybed. Also, the action is perfect, a little heavier than some real pianos I played, it is easy going from this to the real thing. Value: Great value, it's a very well mad instrument for the money I'll keep it until I'm unable to play anymore. Manufacturer Support: I haven't needed to deal with support, I have read several times that if you have a post 2004 model with the key problems yamaha will fix it free at the cost of labor, even after warranty! The Wow Factor: I like the way it looks, I have the black model with the rosewood like cover. I love the simplicity. Overall: I expect to be satisfied with this board forever even after newer models come to the market, it just has the sound I want.

Sound: The Piano sound is amazing!!! Feature: Could have included a pitch and mod wheel Quality: All metal bottom, sides are plastic but its very sturdy. I have had it for about a year now, I gig without a backup. Value: The best sound, touch, and overall value on the market today Manufacturer Support: My P120 took forever to be shipped because when I bought one there was such a demand for this baby I talked to the service people at Yamaha about 5 times and each time they were pretty helpful. The Wow Factor: I have the one that is wood, and I feel it looks good on stage or in my studio. Overall: AWESOME!

SPOTLIGHT REVIEW
Sound: Pianos are fantastic (though the variations lack variety), the Rhodes/Wurly are great, organs are OK. Harpsichord is pretty incredible; it has the sound of releasing a key. The strings and choir are great. The guitar is a bit weak. The electric bass is OK but the acoustic bass is pretty sad. I think the Acoustic Bass included in Garage Band sounds better. Also, when you split the piano/bass, the bass is too soft. You can probably configure it, but it should work from default. Feature: It has what it is meant to have and does what it does well. A couple features could make this go from a great keyboard to an incredible one. If they added a horn/synth horn patch, that would come in really handy for me. Also, it would be REALLY handy to be able to loop the recordings. That's one of the first things I tried to do. Also it would be nice if the meters in the metronome went past 6. (gotta practice playing in 7!) The built-in speakers actually sound great and get quite loud. I've used them several times for small gigs. It's nice not having to be plugged into anything else to practice. hmm...it'd also be nice if there was a digital clock/timer on it. I lose track of time! Quality: It's very rugged. Mine has a scratch on it, but for the last 8 months it's pretty much been a rock. Value: This is a $1000 keyboard, in my opinion. If it addressed some of the things I think it could use, it would be worth $1200. Manufacturer Support: Like another reviewer, my B-Stock came without a music stand and I went through the exact same thing - long wait on the phone, only to find out that it would cost me $115. Weak. However, that's my only experience with them, which I think speaks to the quality. The Wow Factor: I don't think the wooden veneer is the most fetching look, but it's not bad. They could do better. Overall: I got a good price on this ($800) but I think I would replace it for >$1000. The most important thing about it is that the piano sounds incredible and the action is excellent. It's my reliable gigging board. I probably won't think about replacing it for a while unless Yamaha comes out with an improved version of it.

Sound: Probably the best piano sound out there in its price range or even more. I was thinking about picking something else but always came back to it. The other sounds are all pretty descent. For someone like me, good electric pianos are important and the Rhodes and Wurly sounds on it are both quite excellent. Feature: Not a features item, and I guess it wasn't made for that. No pitch benders, or arrpegiators or drum sets or any of that on there. But the basic features are there. The recording has a lot of space with is very useful. Value: For the sound it produces I think the price is quite descent. For people who want sound its great as it also includes very good speakers, so atleast you save money for the amp....temporarily atleast according to your preference. The Wow Factor: Beautiful looking instrument. Overall: I love the sounds, all of them. It's pretty good looking, the speakers are excellent, and the keys' touch sensitivity makes it really really close to an acoustic piano..I like!!

Sound: The piano and Rhodes are incredible. Organs are good. Strings and Choir are great. Basses are OK. Guitars are not great. The action is fantastic. Feature: This board does everything it's supposed to and doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. My only only gripe is that I wish you could loop your recordings. That would be a handy feature for live performances, or practicing playing over loops. Manufacturer Support: I bought mine B-stock, and it didn't include the music stand. After a LONG wait on the long-distance phone, I was told it would cost $102, plus $13 shipping and my local taxes. Weak.

"Good feeling, strange sound problems." submitted September 11, 2004

Sound: At first, the "Grand Piano" sounds from this keyboard blew me away. They were the best (in my opinion, of course) I had heard from any electric piano. The bass was lacking, but this was understandable considering the size of the stock speakers. I connected a pair of headphones, and as expected, the lower frequency sounds were much deeper. I started to play some of the middle keys, still listening through the headphones, and I noticed a strange sound which occurred after the note is pressed and released, while the sound is fading away. While the natural tone of piano was fading, a sort of quiet electric overtone appeared. Right before the sound completely faded away, this electric overtone cut in and out very sharply (as opposed to a smooth change in sound intensity as you would expect from a sound coming from a string). To eliminate any doubt, I stuck my ear right up to the keyboards's stock speakers, and to my dismay, noticed the same noise. During normal playing, and listening through the stock speakers, the problem is not evident, but when playing individual notes and/or listening through headphones, it becomes obvious. As for the other instrument patches, most had the same problem. Turning off the reverb effect seemed to help it in some cases, but not with the two Grand Piano sounds, as these use a "soundboard reverb" effect which cannot be disabled (according to the manual). Feature: I personally was interested in this keyboard purely for the Piano. I found that the pedal was pretty good though, and it supported half-pedaling. It'd be nice to get more than one with the keyboard though. The action on the keys felt quite realistic; I was very impressed with this. Although the keyboard does claim to have a "PC connection" port, the necessary cable is not included, and costs about as much as a midi adapter for the computer. I can't really comment on the other features as I didn't really use them. Quality: The product seems to be of pretty good quality. Solid keys, fairly solid cabinet. It has an external PSU, not one of those wallwarts, but rather one which plugs into the power outlet and then has a cable that goes to the keyboard. I had the teac/silver version, I thought it looked pretty good. The mahogany/black version looks like trash to me, but it's probably just a matter of taste. Value: I'd say it's not worth it, mainly because of the problem with the sound (see above). I wouldn't pay much for it. Manufacturer Support: Haven't had any experience with the support staff. The Wow Factor: Can't really say images of this keyboard were floating in my dreams at night. Overall: Whoever's interested in this keyboard probably is principally because of the acoustic Piano-like features. You could probably get quite good at classical music on this piano (with good practice habits of course), as the weighted keys feel quite realistic (although this too is somewhat a subjective topic), and the pedal allow half-pedaling. As I said above, if you play using the stock speakers, you wont notice the electric noise as much. If it were cheaper than it is, I'd recommend it as a good acoustic piano replacement, but because of its price, and problem with the sound, I'd have to advise against it. If you're looking for a keyboard for electronic music creation, look somewhere else.

Sound: The best sounding portable digital piano on the market. Hands down. Feature: Poor midi control, cheap foot pedal, flimsy power source. Quality: In fifteen months I've had 13 keys break, rendering the keyboard worthless. Each time I've had to take it apart, and each time I'm reminded how poorly constructed the keyboard is. Loose parts, cheap wiring, completely undependable. Manufacturer Support: Yamaha has no concern for its customers. They own all of us, anyway. The Wow Factor: Beautifully perfect upon first glance in a store. Overall: From one month into the ownership I knew this P120 would cost much more than the purchase price. I was right.
