My guitar teacher had this amp in the lesson room. When I plugged into it, it was love at first sight!!! My favorite setting is the Blues setting and the Cali Clean setting. Nice crisp punchy tone and I like the versatility of the bad boy also. I bought the foot switch and like that I'm able to change between 8 different tones. Much better than my older Fender amp!!!!!

"VOX 120+"

this amp was a steal at $225 and bought solely for a rehearsal space amp. Everything is pretty good except the footswitch which doesn't have lights or any way of knowing what preset you're on until walking back to the amp and looking at the panel. The tones are pretty realistic but the sustain could be longer i guess. I gig with a Kemper but always toy with using the Vox. I would add a OD, maybe a noise gate and a wah and be pretty content. The amp is sealed but i'd like to see what speakers are actually in it

When I was 16 I bought a Vox amp, It was small but with the 6" speaker it really had some great tone to it. My step brother bought a real tube Super Beatle amp in 1972, he still owns it and will never give it up. That's why when I looked at amplifiers for my new Ibanez guitar I picked this Vox 120 plus. If you can't duplicate a sound with this product it's not for you. I bought this about three years ago and everyone comes to see what I brought to the gig. I think I got a lot of amp for the money.

Musical Background:

I play with a small gropup of friends that like the same music I like. We also do a couple gigs a month too.

Musical Style:

Mainly Rock but we've been incorporating country as well.

"Great Amp for the $$"

This is my first Vox amp and I wasn't disappointed. Sweet tones, and modeling features.
Sound
This sound is very nice. Since I play mostly gospel, R&B, and Jazz styles of music, the sound quality and tones work well for me. This amp can also get quite loud if you need it to.
Features
With the presets and amp modeling, it's hard to pinpoint anything. You have to dig into the manual at first, but once you get your specific sound dialed in, you can save it and recall it when needed. Recommend getting the foot switch which enables you to recall saved settings with your feet while playing.
Ease of Use
Unless you're familiar with Vox products, you have to dig into the manual. Nothing difficult though. I had to get used to all controls being on top as all of my other amps have the controls in the front. An external speaker option would have been great.
Quality
This is a quality product. Sound, looks, and construction. A bit heavy though.
Value
Good value with all of the features and price. I

The Wow Factor
No big wow factor. It's a Vox with the Vox look.

I like the versatility of this amp. It is heavy though so it may help to have somebody else help you carry it so you don't blow your back out. I notice that guitar pickups with a higher treble output sounds a bit clearer. My acoustic pickup was almost shrill and when plugged into this amp balances it out really well. This amp doesn't sound like mud but I think maybe benefit from an equalizer in front for lower treble output pickups which I have yet to buy. Other than that it is still alot of fun. Sometime the audio was clipping out, like a pause of silence for a split second but that could be my wall socket as well. It is plugged in the same wall I run my internet router and computers through so it could be feed back from that. I have not tried the amp out yet with other musicians in a live setting.

I have had this amp about 1 year and a half. I find it worked well with an acoustic electric that sounded a little shrill and helped tame it. Other than that I cannot reccomend the amp. Most the tones are unusable and muddy. my friend found the smaller 40 version on craigslist and he hates it and even traded a mini black heart stack for it whcih he regrets. I have this cheaper mini stack that i use that has only 20 watts and is waay louder and more usable. dont always believe more watts are louder. heck my 13 watt amp is louder and clearer. this amp has potential but it needs either a new speaker or tubes. all the people who make this amp sound good on you tube probably are micing it with a nice mic at lower volumes because ince you start turning the volume up it starts turning to mud. its an alright amp. ive had worse and ive had better and paid way less.

"awesome amp"

Sexy looks and sexy tone and more versatile then what im use too.
Sound
Awesome tone and a lot of them and better distortion then most amps but a little confusing to use at first. Remember to twist effect knobs down all the way to make sure their off if you want if it to be. Also keep in mind one amp model may work with a tone but not all amps will.
Features
The many amp models and effects are great and easy to use once you learn how to. The headphone jack is a little cheap and the tuner is a little weak but other then that down right awesome amp.
Ease of Use
Easy to dial in a little complicated to get a finished tone but only because there is so much available to use.
Quality
Terrific quality except the headphone jack is a little weak.
Value
Great value for a tube and so much tone available to use.
Manufacturer Support
No need good quality
The Wow Factor
Sexy looks and loud and great tone even when quiet.

"love hate relationship"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Ive heard so many love it and so many hate it and ive come to find why the amp needs you to read the manual and give a little love but trust me from one who knows music the amp is well worth it ;)
Sound
The sound is where the love hate truely comes in the tones can be amazing nd realistic but one tone on one model wont work on another but its realisticly reproducing amps so what did you expect ive found the distortion on this capable of rivaling the best nd a tape echo with acoustic simulation pulls of a awesome clean tone that can go jazzy the effects need you to pull all the way down to diactivate which sucks :/ but the effects are realistic nd good id suggest new speakers in it like some greenbacks nd the tones will become top of the line good but the amp does need love to understand and work its best ;) metal guitarist get this best amp distortion ive had in a long while
Features
The 8 banks is awesome the foot switch is dependable and the pitch shift is nice warning the sound famous fast claim not the best by any means some are okay but overall i dont like it and the built in tuner isnt worth the time of day get a actual tuner also clean out or just unhook the headphone jack to keep the amp from thinking its in when not and leaving you wondering if the amp is broke when it isnt so features i love the foot switch and 8 banks but the tuner nd head phone jack need work :)
Ease of Use
Not at all to me it is but im use to the amp now but that first five or so times you try it you will be lost unless you read that manual but trust me devolop an understanding of the amp and it will be your new buddy my suggestions are remember each model behaves different some even behave just like the real amp so adjust also remember to pull back an effect al the way or the amp will add a little which is nice when you want a tad but not when you dont and remember there is a gain a volume a master nd the volume adjuster remember not to do the volume boost yea it can get a extra 30 watts but it hurts the tone unless you get some greenbacks like me nd the master and adjuster arent programmable while the gain and volume are so in features some work nd love and the amp will behave like something a lot more costly ;)
Quality
The amp is good quality all around especially for price fix the headphone jack and maybe better speakers if ur up for it nd you will have maybe around 700 invested but a 1500$ sound i would like vox to do better on the jack but for this price no complaints for so little problems....trust me most this price need a lot more then this like just not being bought in the first place......ill be honest if you want straight forward nd work nd ur not after metal get a frontman 212r but if you want mean a** distortion plenty of tone nd versatality for not bank crying price you have found your amp and keep in mind there is no straight out of box ready to go nd annilate the stage amp for under a k either spend more or get this amp nd work with it to be worth that more then k amp ;) so i feel for price to features to quality ratio is above average and worth it
Value
Completly worth it i got the foot pedal with it i invested around 800 all together and it plays well with twice as expensive amps so yes completly worth it
Manufacturer Support
Havent needed their support i knew the issues to start with and fixed myself before it was a problem but im sure vox wants to keep their rep up so im sure there service would be good and ive dealt with before with other products nd they were friendly then ^_^
The Wow Factor
Sexy amp it is a beautiful amp to place in the bedroom or music room looks nice and the quality of the distortion in such a cheap amp blew me away i could make good tone without it but i dont wanna now im use to it it has become my gigging amp the amp i love haha i only regret i didnt get it throughzzounds i got it with ams nd they are not in the same class as zzounds ;)
