Your search for the Holy Grail of VOX tone ends here. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of VOX guitar amplifiers, VOx is pleased to introduce the latest in the new Heritage Collection range of hand-wired amplifiers– the AC30H2. Rather than just a typical reissue where a vintage amp is dusted off and copied, this amplifier, like the others in the Heritage Collection, transports you through the golden age of VOX tone, combining the prized EF86 preamp channel of 1958 with the 1963 Top Boost channel all in one amplifier. 10 out of 10Quality:
Look out for loose screws etc. to tighten on the exterior; but other than that, this amp is built like a tank, and heavy as hell. Get some casters on this thing immediately. Or get a nice ATA case with casters.
Value:
Excellent value for a hand-wired amp of boutique quality. As far as pure tone, I would pit it against any Matchless, JMI, Dumble etc.
Desirability:
A total sex machine!
Sound:
In my opinion - the best chime for your dime! The purest AC30 tone I have experienced. Some may complain of no master volume, trem, or reverb, but there is minumum tone-suckage happening here due to their absence. And honestly, as this amp is worn in, it begins to sound even better. Without the MV, you have to either get an attenuator (I use a Z Airbrake) or have a place large enough to turn this amp up. When you do, you experience the magic of this amp. I've found my dream tone machine.
