Feature:
The remote control makes life so much easier and allows me to dial in the perfect monitor mix right from my tracking room.
VU meters are a huge plus.
The mid-side recording mode is so useful and easy to use.
Extra C input for monitor mix a big plus.
Filters on the pres are great -- can be 30, 70, or 100Hz and do an excellent job.
Quality:
I would expect nothing less from UA, and this product delivers great quality. Clearly a solid design and very well built.
Value:
I would happily pay a lot more for this product, now that I know how much impact it's had on my studio. Amazing to have all these features and quality for under a grand.
Desirability:
The big VU meters make it really appealing. Nice solid, smooth knobs give it great feel. The simple stylings are a good match for the UA brand and emphasize the fact that this product is all about the guts inside and not some fancy molded plastic case.
Sound:
Perfectly clean and transparent preamp path - very open and natural sound, especially with acoustic instruments and vocals. This lets me capture all nuances of my performances and leave all coloring of my tracks to my plugins.
Ease of Use:
It took a little while to get a full grasp on all the features (this product is absolutely LOADED with features), but after just an hour or two of use it became very simple and inutitive to use.
Support:
UA customer service is the best!
Overall:
The DCS Remote Pre will be a mainstay part of my studio for a long long time!
